Sony SCD-XA777ES CD/SACD Player

This was a $3000.00 player when new and was highly reviewed.

The physical condition is very good, a few tiny nicks and a faint rub mark of top. Comes with the original remote, which is in great shape. There is a catch, it plays CD's, but not SACD's and the load time is longer than it should be. A new optical pickup should resolve those issues and are available online. The asking price reflects that.

I've seen these go in the $800 to $1000 range.

The asking price is $399.00 plus the usual shipping and 3% payPal fees.

    Ok, how about $325.00.

I'd replace the pickup myself, but I'm busy with other projects and I don't need another CD/SACD player. Therefore, thought I'd pass on a good deal for a built like a tank player. IIRC, a new pickup is about $50.00.

    The "color" (LOL) is black.

I've done it before on one of these and for me it wasn't hard, but I'm more tech than monkey. The hardest part is getting the ribbon cable off and then back on. That said, since you're more monkey than tech, you'd be better off having a tech do it.

That's a nice player. I also need a pickup for my Accuphase SACD player that uses the same pickup as yours. Do you know any source?

Thanks for the info but I am not very fond of eBay ones. I had a major problem with the last eBay pickup.

These old Sony sounds really good!

I was hoping it was silver, all my gear is silver, that and needing a tech plus exchange and shipping cross border I believe my cost would not be worth it for me..
Not in the cards this time..Jessy
Plus I just ordered a Bryston BDP-2 still waiting for it from Bryston

Reach out to Steve Sank at "Talking Dog Transducer Co."

Steve has been very receptive and helpful to me in many ways the guys seems to know his way around a board to get the best out of it. He was also the guy who helped me in the Sony DVP-9000 to get lasers from older Sony 360-560 DVD players to keep mine going as all new is completely gone and the guy on eBay selling "new" lasers was in fact selling very old used pull's from older machines.

I am aware where the Chinese are getting their NEW laser heads from.

Thanks. That's great. I have few questions. I'd like to see some pictures if possible. What's your total asking price with shipping to west coast? One technical question: since this is last Sony scd player before they introduced time delay function should I be concerned that this player doesn't have it? My speakers are not equidistant, they're close though. Most of the SACD's I own are multichannel ones. I'm new to this forum, is there a way here to send private messages? Thanks again.
One more question: what's your experience with those relatively inexpensive Chinese pickups? How long do they last? I recently replaced one in my Denon 2930 and it's still not working 100%. I don't see original part listed anywhere currently.

No sweat...wasn't something that I NEEDed anyway. I have two other modded ES's (555 and 222) with about the same problem...not sure why I thought I needed a third?

Anyway, fortuitous as I came home to another failing panel (at least one) on the Quads so to say I'm pissed is a monumental understatement. So, my sniffing is going more to speakers. I'm going to have the Quads repaired and move them down the road. Pushing 15 years with Quads...maybe time to look at something else. Awful dearth of interesting speakers out there. There is a local pair of Thiel 3.6's that have me semi-erect and I also have a pair of Amazings that have been sitting since, jeeze, 5 years or so? So, what I'm thinking...is getting them up and running. Which reminds me, I got to get in touch w/ Tedwick too. The thought of Amazings, operational, has me almost fully erect.
