Anyone remember candyliquor35? I believe he was the earliest known persona to start the topple of a once great forum. I'm pretty sure he was the first to complain about the infamous "babe" thread.

He complained about a lot of things............he must have been Xcapri's grandfather.

    H9

Who could forget Carl and his seriously whacked gray matter. He was so in love with SL2000 tweeters that he installed one on each of the front doors in his car. I've got a pic of that somewhere. Then there was the 2.2uF cap he added to the SL2000's in his speakers. Someone ran a program, which showed that doing so resulted in something like a 15dB drop in the upper frequencies.

One of the whacker non-audio related stories involved him bugging the authorities trying to get them to make the people on his street park in their driveways instead of on the street.

I'm sure he had a very nice collection of tinfoil hats.

If memory serves me well, he was also an early adaptor of "Coat Hanger" speaker wire and i/c's.

    Caligula Polk, IIRC?
Can't remember what I had for lunch today though...

And lest we forget rskarvan, I remember he got owned big time by someone here who he p*ssed off, got pix posted of his house, cars, telephone #, funny stuff back then.

So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Joe was slightly deaf in one ear, the deaf guy was Caligula Polk. He could feel the music.

rskarvan, Ron the Rat. He and that made up "female" member were responsible for getting the Babe thread removed. Yes, someone did post pics of his house, car, phone number and bunch of other stuff. All well deserved.

When I joined I lurked a few times and that's it, AOL dial up sucked.. I think my log in name was kidrock?? Something at the end..

I actually forgot all about the forum till 2009 when I upgraded my speakers to the A9 line, can't believe it's been 7 years...

So I was almost an early member...

Nothing has changed over the years Jess, we have current "tag teams" that do the same thing. Only thing that has changed is how we deal with it.

Sure have had a good variety of characters over the years though which makes this place fun in any event.

Seriously? Have you not heard of google??? I really just don't understand this, unless its so you can tell your wife your on a audio forum haha.

I joined in 2007. Lurked for a while. Definitely been some change over in membership, and peaks and valleys in activity but one thing never changes: F1NUT remains. That dude abides.

I know one thing, we had a lot more fun back then.....cutting up, telling dirty jokes, posting hot babe pics and of course talking audio. None of this PC and censor BS, which has just killed this once great forum.

As much as we would disagree, I actually miss those guys on here.
Honestly I feel to many good members don't post anymore and for many reasons over the years. I think passion for our hobby gets the best of some of us and then the fights break out and threads get closed but before that happens I think some people get turned off and exit .
I think the forum was so much better 5 years ago and back. Todays forum is a far cry from what it use to be. Yes we still have some really good members and some very interesting conversations but it's not the same.

OMG, speaking of Circuit City, I heard a while back that they are regrouping and I think the first store will be in Dallas? Glad you came back Larry, appreciate all your input and efforts you bring to us here at the forum sir.

    "Actually"? ;- )

Well, Russ was an early adopter at AK, too; though he disappeared from there well before he did from here.
Doro -- what can one say? Yes, good/interesting lad. One of the few folks here I've actually met in... umm... "meatspace" (as they say).
Troy... I don't know who, specifically, this is -- although I am sure I know at some level.

    [frivolous editorial aside follows]

Me, of course, just a hanger-on here... but still a (vintage) Polk devotee. (EDIT: more like "fanboy" -- more devoted to things like vintage Altec theatre speakers and studio monitors at this point).

Heck, I even bought a pair of headphones from 'em on one of the "Friends & Family" sales not too long ago.

I don't think this forum is really any better or worse -- not even all that different. I don't like the current forum s/w, but it's tolerable (I'd say "it grows on one", but then again, so does toenail fungus). I know that the Old Guard has a panoply of gripes about it and the way its managed, but the way I look at it, it's the property of a for-profit enterprise who uses it as a marketing/PR tool and it's pretty much their call how to manage it. I'm OK with that -- most days.

Days I'm not... I just try to keep my mouth shut (metaphorically speaking).

When you think about it, what could you really do on the old format that you can't on this one?

    Nothing really too significant.

At least not significant enough for the uproar we had from some.

It's different that's all. You can still type and post pictures and all the fun stuff that makes up a real forum vs an antiquated newsgroup.

Considering your join date is 2011 you have no idea what the old formats had.

Had enough attention for one day or is your ego still not satisfied?
