Monitor 10 crossover upgrade

Thanks, yes the oddball crossover looks just like that single crossover for sale. Both of mine have the yellow 34 uf cap, and both use black 12 uf caps. On my crossover with two black 12 uf caps the caps are different, the one over the resistors is longer but still black.
From all I can tell I have the Peerless tweeters and am being told the RDO-194 will not fit my cabinet. My tweeters have no writing or id numbers back or front. The black dome has a hole in the center. The wires on the front of the tweeter come down at an angle and go through the face plate to the inside where they connect to the hook up wire. They look identical to the ones referenced above from "Midwest Speaker Repair". -
On ebay there is a listing for tweeters that look identical to mine, search "Polk model 10", item 6 and item 11 from the same seller are just like mine, they have the hole in the dome.
So can I use the RDO-194, there seems to be differing opinions, when I ordered the 194s yesterday the rep said they would work but on this forum people said no. I called Polk back and the rep said no they will not work and refunded my money as they had not shipped out yet. -
As it happens, I'm working on a customers early 10s, which have the single 12uf cap, and Peerless tweeters. Do you have an LCR Meter to measure the Inductors? You can eliminate the 12uf shunt cap on one crossover, so they'll both be the same, as long as the inductors match.Home Theater/2 Channel:

I just ordered a meter from ebay so I can check it out soon.
Your suggestions? Single cap if inductors are the same? The question for me is why did they add a cap to later models? Certainly I need to find out if the inductors are the same. Stick with the Peerless tweeters?
Don't know if you read my post from the top but these two speakers are almost 5,000 numbers difference in serial numbers. What are the serial number of the ones you are working on? -
Serial #s aren't really important. Yes, go with the single Cap in each. The shunt cap was added to the later Models as a contour network, to compensate for the impedance and frequency response of the SL1000 and SL2000 tweeters. The original Peerless must have had a relatively flat response.
I'm guessing either one of the crossovers was replaced, or it was a transitional model.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Wanted to report back, upgraded my crossovers as suggested in post above, very happy with the sound. Yes, they are in my shop which is 24' x 28', one in each corner of the 24' wall. I am driving them with a Hafler XL-600 which has 305 watts into 8 ohms. Pretty amazing bass for the drivers in the Model 10, I don't have to drive them hard to get great bass. I realize they are getting a bass boost being in the corner.
The only Polk speakers I have owned, really impressed. -
Great! Enjoy them.Home Theater/2 Channel:
