I remember him singing with Bing Crosby on a Christmas show.

Karl - That's my all-time favorite Christmas song - Bowie & Bing's rendition of the Little Drummer Boy. Great lyrics and arrangement.

I've observed over the years that eccentricity and creativity often go hand in hand. Bowie was a musical pioneer in so many ways and like Miles Davis he surrounded himself with, and collaborated with some of the greatest talent of the day (Brian Eno, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Fripp etc.)

It makes you wonder if his final album really was his "farewell" to the world?

It's pretty-ironic that he would release it on his 69th birthday and then would die two days later. When I was watching the Bowie special on Palladia over the weekend I wasn't aware it was his birthday.

Listen to the song and the video Lazarus. Too me he sees his impending death and is saying goodbye

Listen to the Song and watch the video Lazarus. Too me it is pretty apparent he is saying goodbye.

You know, I saw the vid several days before his death and thought it was kind of "dark" (but still good). Now that we know a little more about what was going on in his life it makes more sense.

I still have my copy of station to station I used to play in 1976 before going to school, no record cleaners, alignment tools for the tonearm or needle, would not have been helpful anyway since it was made into the top of my western auto stereo.

Carlos Alomars guitar still does it for me after all these years.

So, the original thread started by BlueFox at 2:34 AM in the Clubhouse gets moved here to a thread started afterwards by someone else? That's just wrong and besides this thread belongs in the Clubhouse, please move it back and in the proper order.

On another note, on the Steve Hoffman Forum there are 1200 posts about Bowie's passing with 72,000 views......72,000!!!

Have they said what form of cancer David was fighting yet?

The last I heard they hadn't said what type he had. Seeing that he smoked cigarettes up to at least a couple years ago and the fact that the cancer seemed to be pretty-aggressive (18 months from the time he was diagnosed until his death) I wouldn't be surprised if it was lung cancer.

  • I heard liver.

I saw today that his new album is rocketing to #1 and will be the only #1 album of his career.

Funny how that works especially with the body of work Bowie had.

Title track, Black Star is not of this earth. Deep, dark, macabre; like staring Death in the Face and realizing it is YOUR face that is staring back! Definitely not for "everyone", some will find it disturbing, some will wonder how it is even possible!

So would you say he turned his dying into art. I need to get this album.

So I sat down with The Black Star album tonight, lots of irony in the song Lazarus, creepy as the album was released 2 days before his death. Obviously written after he found out about cancer, and assume his release date was planned around his last days.

    Lazarus:
Look up here, I’m in heaven
I’ve got scars that can’t be seen
I’ve got drama, can’t be stolen
    Everybody knows me now

Look up here, man, I’m in danger
I’ve got nothing left to lose
I’m so high it makes my brain whirl
Dropped my cell phone down below

    Ain’t that just like me

By the time I got to New York
I was living like a king
Then I used up all my money
I was looking for your ****

    This way or no way
    You know, I’ll be free
    Just like that bluebird
Now ain’t that just like me

    Oh I’ll be free
    Just like that bluebird
    Oh I’ll be free
    Ain’t that just like me
