Can you still connect speakers on Avr with an additional amp?

I will be using xpa-5 amp with my receiver to hook up my rtia9. Can I still use the speaker connections from my avr to connect more speakers? For example I'm using the front channels and the surround back can I stil add more to that same channel with other speakers? I wanna get pair of rtia7 and connect them also.

You would hook them up on the surrounds speaker out on the AVR

  • No. You should not use the amp's front channels if you are using its front preout. That said, you wouldn't want to connect your surrounds on the front channel anywats as the surround mix would be completely wrong.

Wait a minute if you have a 7.1 receiver and a 5 channel amp, them you need 5-RCA IC's to the Emo then hook all speakers in a 5.1 to Emo amp

    Front L
    Front R
    Center
    Rear surround L
    Rear surround R
    2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures
Desktop rig: LSi7, Polk 110sub, Dayens Ampino amp, W4S DAC/pre, Sonos, JRiver

    +1 to @txcoastal
If/when you get a pair of side surrounds, they can be hooked up directly to the speaker terminals of the Pioneer; in fact you can power those, + a center, + rear surrounds with your AVR, no sweat.

So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Why towers for surrounds? I realize in large rooms, that might be the only option, so maybe that's it. Get yourself the CSiA6 center.

Be honest, I was thinking of towers would be better look then two bookshelf speakers. Do towers and bookshelf sound different? I just thought it would look badass with two rtia9 and two rtia7

I've heard that many times, but I don't really get it. Bottom line is, IMO, surround sound was designed, and works best, coming from above the listener's head. Speakers that can be mounted 6' to 7' off the floor create an ideal sound field. Can it also be done with another pair or two of floorstanders? Yes, if you must. And by must I mean, you have a very large great room (open architecture) with absolutely no walls to mount surrounds on.

Now, a matching tower used as a center channel? That's a different story. Completely badass (and most certainly not a compromise) if you can pull it off!

Towers have larger cabinet volume, and so are (usually) capable of more bass response; that is not to say bookshelves can't have good bass.

If you have corners behind the listening position where you can fit towers to be used as surrounds, maybe flip them around so the drivers face the corner? That way the sound will reflect back into the room and not be localized. Just something to try,
I have no idea if it will sound better though.

So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?
