Cable TV Companies......Blahh

So, who do you use?? been with AT&T for a couple of years and finally made a switch today. Made an appt. to have Time Warner come on out and do their thing. In the area I am located the at&t company is unable to provide a good solid and reliable wi-fi signal, plus they keep jacking the prices up making me call in to straighten it out. I got a 1 year deal for just about 10 dollars less with 2 movie stations (starz & epix) but a much higher internet speed...or so they say. We shall see. I'm not much of a good ranter..am I?? lol Say you???

You're fortunate, at least you seem to have choices.
If I don't use Cablevision, my only option is satellite for TV and (maybe?) DSL for 'net access. Verizon just can't seem to get FiOS offered in my area, so we are pretty much stuck; talk about a stranglehold.

Having said that, Cablevision does have a decent CS Dept., and their connection speeds are usually better than what you pay for (and there are several packages offering different download speeds). And having all the "eggs in one basket" makes it easier at tax time B)
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

  • As much as I dislike Time Warner, I will take them any day over ATT.

    I use TW.
The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

It is imperative that we recognize that an opinion is not a fact.
  • My choices are Comcast or RCN where I live.Verizon FINALLY got FiOS lit up on my street, but it is "unavailable" at my address!
So for now it's RCN who's customer service walks all over Verizon and Comcast any day.
However if FiOS becomes available at my address, I'm getting it.

TWC Carolinas here. No issues with TV, WiFi or interwebs. Speed tests show about 85meg on average. Cost a bit more but I don't mind as long as it works.

Time Warner? The most despised cable company in America. I had them, charged too much, cut the cord, now use them for WiFi. Switched to Chromecast, Hulu, Netflix. But as Cathy pointed out in another thread. It's only a matter of time before TW and everyone else LOBBIES to get those delicious PROFITS back by charging exorbitant fees for WiFi/internet or maybe going to a DATA-USE model that brings in HUGE, HUGE profits! lol Because they are TOO BIG TO FAIL! OMG! I hit 13K posts on a rant about Time Warner, that's ironic!

    Directv all day long.

Great picture, audio and customer service... the advert that says you lose during rainstorms is Bravo Sierra. Been with them for like 20 years. Cable companies stink.

I've been waiting for Cable to implement something similar to that for awhile now, maybe this will be the year since I understand the Dolan family sold to a company in Europe? Nothing like some new management perspective to screw things up...

Only thing that might save us from that is they are really expanding their WiFi areas, and are actively trying to get into the wifi-only cell phone market, Since they tout that all Optimum customers get free wifi in all their hot spots, I'm hoping they'll leave well enough alone?

So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I dropped Comcast years ago as I can't stand their service or prices. Currently running FIOS interest with streaming services and an HD antenna, and I love it!

Came from TWC to AT&T. They raise the price every year but if you **** enough it goes back down. All in all I'm happy with it. Was thinking about switching to Directv but AT&T owns it now so thinking the internet and phone would be the same so what the heck just say where I'm at and **** about the price every year.

Best thing I ever did for my computer was leave AT+T's crappy dsl and go to Atlantic Broadband for internet. I liked it so much that I've also ditched the satellite dish and have cable tv with them to.

Went many years without tv service & got new tv & went for it. Got Comcast recently & love it. Record all shows we want now & upcoming & pause & talk to remote (love that feature). Get tired-record it & watch it whenever. More show than i can keep up with. Still have NetFlix & all that stuff with Roku. Well worth the dough & older we get we enjoy it

Comcast here....other choices are AT&T which suck, direct tv or dish. Though anytime you limit choices, in anything, the ending result is always "blahh".

More like when you have limited choices in anything, then the ending results..are blahh! Either At&t or Time Warner so this change can't be worse than At&t....or can it??? :)

Comcast for Broadband (no choice there), and DirecTV. May go back to Comcast for TV, since DirecTV's rates keep creeping up, and AT&T bought them.

Ah, the creeping rate! Sometimes it's even a galloping rate. Amazing how quickly cable rates can rise, they remind me of how college tuition and fees have been besting inflation and cost of living for DECADES! My, those administrators' salaries are so high, and they keep hiring more and more of them. Goodness what will we do? Where to house them all, what work to find for them? Education? A secondary consideration.

I've been with Comcast for about 8 yrs. and they are horrible about that creeping rate. Used to get Turner Classic Movies on one of the cheaper packages about 5 years ago. Back then I was paying around $30.00 a month. Somewhere along the line, Comcast figured they were only going to offer TCM in the packages starting at a higher rate,$100.00 a month(?) or so. They priced me right out of ever getting that level of channels. Just this past year, my bill has gone up about $10.00 a month just for extra charges they give everyone now. Seems my monthly now is about $65.00 total, time for a change to get it back down to about $45.00 .
