Setting up my Vintage Polk Music room

Picked up a 1 owner set of SDA 1C Studios a couple weeks ago and yesterday I bought some mint M5's. My center is the more modern CSIA6. My Sub is the Flagship Micropro 4000 which Polk stopped making. Power wise, I have Emotiva's reference series XPR-2: 500 WPC in 8 Ohms and 1000 WPC in 4 Ohms. Center channel and soon to be M5's will be powered by my Onkyo TX-NR5007 at 145 WPC. I grew up a Polk fan. My father started off with the Monitor 5's before ultimately buying the SDA SRS 1.2's. My SDA 1C's sound incredible. But assume at some point I may need to look at replacing the Tweeters. Anyone have a set of the M5's? I'll basically be using these as my Surrounds for HT and for some of my SACD's that are mixed in 5.1.

  • Oops, meant to say my father started off with the Polk 10 Monitors, which is why I've never heard the M5's I bought online.

  • Also have a dedicated Home Theater if you want to check it out. It's on YouTube under Bryan's Home Theater in noticed you like SVS subs. I have a couple in my dedicated Home Theater. I did move my TX-NR5007 from my theater to upstairs while I had the HDMI board replaced. My current receiver in my Home Theater is a Pioneer Elite SC-65

I love my SVS. There's an SVS thread in the Subwoofer Hookup section

  • Very Nice, Welcome...Just checked out your HT video, very cool. Be prepared to catch some flac for using Emotiva with the RTi series though :) I do the same thing and I like it very much.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

Great setup and I see you had the infamous Onkyo HDMI board problem as well !!

I cannot stress this enough. You should keep the speakers at least three to five feet from any sidewalls or large furniture.Otherwise the early reflections are wreaking havoc with the soundstage.ESPECIALLY the SDA soundstage!!!
Get those speakers away from the equipment rack and I promise you there will be a large difference in what you hear.

Agreed, spread them out and close to the wall. You wont need a sub if set up proper. Then replace the tweets and be prepared to be blown away!
