Man, I don't know about the rest of you, but after 2 days of family and noise some peace and quiet is a welcome thought today.
The 24th was my side at my sisters house. Every year we take turns hosting. About 40 people, food up the ying yang, and lots of fun...and noise.
Next morning 9 a.m. is the wifes side for Christmas brunch at my house. About another 40 people....and more food....and noise. As a side note, I go downstairs to grab more wine and my 24 year old nephew has the Tv's main remote changing all my picture settings on the new TV. You can imagine my reaction...."WTF are you doing ? " Has his phone in the other hand, tells me " Ya know Uncle Tony, you can get professional calibrations over the internet"
"Noo sh&t Sherlock, you think I don't know how to use the internet ?" You don't go into someone elses home and start changing TV settings for Christ sake. If he wasn't related, He'd have my hand prints around his neck and my foot....you know where.
Last person left around 2 p.m., then clean up and get ready for dinner. Just the wife and I, one daughter and her boyfriend....and a nice bone in ribeye roast between us. Which btw turned out frickin' fantastic. By 10 I'm done, sat down on the couch.....and I hear woof woof outside. Yep, like clock work....the neighbors Great Danes. They come over daily for treats, being Christmas, they're no dummies. Yeah, they got the left over Ham from brunch.

Happy Boxing Day !!!

Sounds like you had a good time Tony.
Sorry to hear about your nephew that's a pain a** I hope you explain to him that it's bad manners to mess with another Man's electronics without asking.
Happy Boxing Day

Well Tony once you get the Sony recalibrated, and since your still in the festive mood but don't want to admit it, go to Netflix and put on the 4k yule log you can stare at the fireplace in 4k goodness while listening to your favorite holiday songs.
The wife woke up got dressed in a hurry, I said where you off to, her reply Walmart for the after Christmas sale wanna come? I politely said no thanks, I mean come on who wants to see people fighting for Xmas decorations at 50% off its time to take it all down and store it away till next year. I have to admit I was happy to see her go that gives me oh 3 or 4 hours give or take for cranking the tunes yeah best day of the holiday season right here!Home Theater

That would have made my blood boil. When we hosted thanksgiving, my nieces boyfriend snuck downstairs and fired up my home theater system. Everything was fine, but I've literally only met him once before. Ya think you'd ask before doing something like that with someone you didn't know.
Anyways, we are hosting wife's side of the family today. Should be 10 adults and 5 kids under 5 yrs old. (3 are mine though ) Should be pretty chill, although sister in law is bringing new boyfriend. We'll see how that goes.

Yeah, before Xmas I'm sitting in the living room watching a Western. My nephew and his kids come, one of the kids comes into the living room, goes to the remote and starts changing the channel. I'm like, "What do you think you're doing?" He says, "I wanna watch cartoons." I explain to him that you don't go into a room where someone is already watching something and just change channels. He goes to his Dad and starts pouting. His Dad is like, "He wants to watch cartoons." I said he can ask me politely, or he can watch cartoons when the Western is over. And they're acting like I'm an A-hole. I said to my nephew if either of us has walked into a room where adults were watching something and just went up and changed the channel there would be a swift exit out of the room for us and a severe scolding at best. Especially if it was football. My nephew didn't think the kid should have to ask. That'll be the day. Lol
-
Easy solution to all the above....
Lock the remotes up lol..
But I 10000% agree kids these days (damn I sound old like @tonyb) lack the respect they should have and have an expectation that they run the show.
Skye is exhibiting this herself and we are working hard for her to be self sufficient in that if she wants her blanket it's not "Daddy I wan my olll (owl) ankie (blanket)", but she get it herself...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." I would have told him....Then you can take the kid back home and he can watch cartoons there.

Mine won't be done until Monday. Visiting my girlfriends family a 4 hour drive away from home, and they have a ten month old baby. No peace and quiet and no music. Also sleeping on a crappy blow up bed. Can't WAIT to get home and blast some tunes. At least the wine and food is in abundance.2 channel:

Tony...I totally agree. My wife and I had a small party last week for some friends of hers in a Spanish literature group she belongs to. My wife is from Mexico and she gets together once a month with some (mostly American) friends to speak Spanish and discuss a short story that they have read in Spanish that month. I have met all of the people in the group and it is a great bunch. But I nearly died when, during our party, I left the living room for a few minutes to help my wife with the food in the kitchen, and upon returning to the living room, I see that one of the guests has a beer on top of one of my SDA 2BTL speakers. Luckily, there was a ceramic coaster underneath it or I would have lost it. But I was still upset seeing that. Damn, do we really need to make a sign, "This is a speaker, not a table," for these people? Unbelievable. And, on top of that, another guest (an astronomy professor at the local college) decides to stand inches away from my fairly new (and just finally paid off after 2 years of financing) 60" Panasonic plasma TV, swinging his arms back and forth as he is talking. I was staring at him, trying to subtly give him a signal to move away from the TV and he finally did. But, man, these are adults and well educated people and they should know better. My wife knows how careful I am with my equipment. Luckily nothing happened to the speakers or TV. But I would never go to someone else's house and put a drink on a pair of speakers, coaster or no coaster, or stand inches away and nearly touching expensive electronics.

To everyone with inconsiderate relatives and friends.
I recommend double sided deadbolt locks.
And keep them locked too.
And if anyone has the balls to ask why that door is locked tell them that I care about what's behind it and the lock is to keep YOU out of there.
This works REALLY NICELY on a girlfriend's mother. I had my home theater and the bedroom both locked. -
If anyone asked me why a door is locked they would be ejected from my house immediately. No one comes in my house questioning me! LMAO!
-
That is what that one other little used feature is for !! Lock settings.....years ago my son thought me the meaning if of when we bought the panny plasma. Come home from work one day and OH MY GOD WTF IS WRONG WITH THE NEW TV !!!!!! Learned right there to lock it down and need a password.

HEHE....love it.
Early on the 26th, my sister calls me, the one who hosted for our side on Christmas eve. Never again she says, the house was trashed. She has a nice fish tank in her living room too, a big one....which someone decided the fish needed to eat some lasagna. I don't have to tell you guys with tanks what grease will do to it. People spilling stuff on the furniture....and not cleaning it up. One kid was picking his nose and touching all the deserts.....desert was out for me.
.....and her dog. She has a male 2 yr old German Shep. Beautiful big boy but has never been around a group of people. Everyone comes in sticking their face in front of the dogs....good way to lose your face. Being familiar with the breed myself, I could tell his demeanor and all night I was taking him outside every 10 minutes or so to give him some breathing room, fresh air, and play with his ball. What was even worse was some parents where totally checked out as to what their kids were doing. That's how people get bitten, by not paying attention and trying to man handle strange dogs.
I don't blame the kids, I blame the parents.
One kid was even in my sisters bedroom upstairs going through her jewelry box. My sis asked her wtf she thinks she is doing....you know the response she gets ?? Mind you this is really no kid, a High schooler. Her response...."Looking for stuff to pawn, I have to pay for college somehow. " If that was in my house, I would have booted her and her parents right then and there. Most of this centers around 2 sets of parents and their kids.HT SYSTEM-

Yep she would of been taken to her parents and told to empty her pockets, then both parents and child asked to leave. That is completely B S college for her needs to be a line up for burglary. -
It's bound to happen. I have 5 siblings and we all take turns hosting holidays. It's really the only time we can all get together aside from weddings and funerals. When stuff like this happens, the siblings start opting out and before you know it you never see your family, everyone goes their separate ways.
Sad really, it has to come down to that. The lack of respect shown for others homes and property.....I dunno man. When I was young if any of us behaved like that....we may not have lived to see another holiday.
We have all tried over the years to talk to the offending parents who only seem oblivious and insulted by any mention. Not much else you can do except not invite them, but they are nieces and nephews who are not given the proper guidance.
Well, like they say....you need a license to catch a fish but any arse hat can be a parent.HT SYSTEM-

Last person left around 2 p.m., then clean up and get ready for dinner. Just the wife and I, one daughter and her boyfriend....and a nice bone in ribeye roast between us. Which btw turned out frickin' fantastic....
Tony, so what method did you use to cook the roast?
-
It was pre-seasoned night before with salt and pepper and garlic. Left out to bring to room temp and pan seared first before putting on the rack. Smothered with soft butter and into the oven with a meat thermometer in the center of the roast. I use the meat thermometer I normally use for the grill mainly because it has a long lead and is wireless so I can carry around the read out, and don't have to open the oven to check the temp.
Took it out at 130, covered and let rest for 15. No peeking while cooking, throws the process off. End pieces where medium, like my daughter likes , inside was med-rare like the wife and I like, perfect. Cut into one inch thick steaks, with some garlic mashed, a nice bottle of Borolo and I'm in heaven. Which speaking of heaven, they better have fine wine and cheeses, good meat up there. I'm going to be pissed if I find they're all vegetarians.HT SYSTEM-

I heard one yesterday. A friend says he went to the Twin Cities to see his sister for Xmas. His other sister and his brother-in-law show up. His brother in law is going to the bathroom quite often and sweating. He later says he is "getting over" the flu. "Don't worry," he says, "I'm not contagious anymore."

You get that at work all the time. How the heck does anyone know whether they are contagious or not? They don't. On the other hand you can't stay at home forever. It amazes me the human race didn't die off thousands of years ago.

350.....I debated going lower....or higher for a short period and then lowering, but I had already seared the puppy. My meat thermometer tells me 140 is medium rare, B.S. I say. I used my own judgments based on experience.
While the meat rests, the internal temp will rise a few degrees, and that also varies by the temp you cook at. If your cooking low and slow, the resting temp will only rise a few degrees. Cooking at higher temps can mean at rest the meat may still cook an additional 5 or 6 degrees.HT SYSTEM-
