No, the receivers your looking at is like a 307. A better receiver will move you up to the 350 area, but we both know a 350 in those cars is only good for around town and 55mph highway cruising. Even the 350 won't turn a Camaro or Vette into a screamer.
Point is, you need horsepower, and only a separate amplifier can deliver it for those speakers.
For subs, you should be looking at SVS, HSU, Velodyne....and save a ton of coin by buying used since your budget is limited right now. If your a true car buff, you have a garage full of vintage parts too that some are willing to pay top dollar for on your local craigslist. Sell what you don't need to fund what you want....no shame in that, we all do it.
Putting together an audio system is like putting together a car. Some parts will work better than others, a synergy of parts is what makes a car work and perform well. Same with audio, and that's all we are trying to guide you on from those with experience building systems.HT SYSTEM-

Thank you again tony. And yeah the biggest problem right now is really the terrible canadian dollar, with a good receiver with preouts like marantz 7010 running 2700 $$$$ :-( I can't seem to find any receiver with preouts for under a grand... also I live in an extremely rural area (no cell reception, 4 hour drive to closest electronics store (best buy), #so craigslist and stuff like that isnt as easy as living on the mainland (Rural Newfoundland)

Ps @tonyb thank you for putting it into terms I can understand hahaha
-
So I guess my plan now is to keep hunting... ill still let the 1710s ship here just so I can give it a once over but will probably end up returning it. At the price I got on the subs id say id keep at least one as the old avr125 will probably go upstairs with a smaller set of speakers where they can actually make a difference. Thanks again guys for all the info and ill update when I find the one im looking for.

Ps for all fellow canucks on here the a9 are on sale at best buy for 400 $ each right now if you're in the market.

Hello oldskool, as Tony suggested, I just looked at the Canuck site and there is a few options, search Denon AVR I've seen 2 that have pre outs for around $500 and an citation amp 200 watts per channel that was just refurbished for $500.
Cheers -

The specs HK posts are misleading and thats what the guys are trying to tell you.
General Specifications
Stereo Power 100 watts per channel, ""two channels driven"" @ 6/8 ohms, 20Hz – 20kHz, <0.07% THD
Multichannel Power 100 watts per channel, ""two channels driven"" @ 6/8 ohms, 20Hz – 20kHz, <0.07% THD
High Instantaneous-Current Capability (HCC) ±42 amps
Guys, correct me if I'm wrong, but HK essentially states the same thing twice;
stereo = 100 watts/channel "two channels driven"
Multichan = 100/watts "two channels driven"
Also, they state @6/8 ohms. This is either sloppy or just plain wrong as the same unit will typically deliver different watts into diff ohms.
Lastly, HK states High "Instantaneous"-Current "Capability".
You typically don't see the more thoroughly engineered brands stating so many qualifiers in their stats.
Google amps from ATI, Parasound, Marantz, Bryston and you will begin to see the limitations of the HK.HT: Marantz NR-1603, Oppo 981, Def Tech SM55, SVS PB-1000
BR: iPad Mini, Audio Engine A5+
2C: Parasound ZDAC V.2, Sony DA80ES, Sony XDR-F1HD, SVS Prime Tower, JSE .6 Infinite Slope
Office: MBAir, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, JBL LSR-308
Projects: Polk RTA12, Polk Monitor 7, Revox B225CD, BIC 3-TM -
