It makes me sad this story is from Texas. I wore a 'Make 7 up yours' shirt to school once. My first period class was athletics. My coach said I wouldn't make it past 3rd period with it on. Made it all day by strategically hiding from teachers...haha. Never wore it to class again though. I found out that day that a friend of mine wore it and they made her change it earlier that year. Junior high schools are the worst about that type of stuff it seems.

Remember "Co-Ed Naked" and "Big Johnson" shirts? When i was in school, everyone with these shirts had to turn it inside out.
Yet, all the trailer trash wearing Rat Fink shirts were ok.....Da-$%^&

Ha....I loved those "Big Johnson" shirts. Wife made me ditch 'em though after we got married. Sad day....

In retrospect, I should have just buried them. They would have lasted longer than the first wife anyway.

It was noted in the report that students are to follow a dress code. that is contained in the Secondary Student Handbook.

It was also noted he had worn the shirt several times before and there was no issue. Sounds to me like the rules in the "student handbook" are selectively enforced depending on what's in the news. A TERRIBLE example to set. The school should be ashamed for making him cover it up this time, but not the others.

Your right Skip, a dress code violation is a violation no less. Except, given that list, one has to ask what isn't a violation. If you want to be that strict, just make it a uniform environment like catholic schools do. Make them all wear the same thing....done, no arguments to be had. I actually like that idea because it will teach an important lesson. If you abuse a privilege, you lose it.

What was acceptable one year, suddenly isn't the next, and it gets worse as time progresses. We can all agree on standards in dress codes, but you have to admit it's gotten out of hand....on both sides, parents and schools.

You can argue the fact that school dress codes are reactionary, strict as a result of dumb parents who let their kids wear anything to school. That only means then that something else is missing or happening in society that we have so many dumb parents. If that's the case, we aren't addressing the real problems in society and just band-aiding as we go along.

Back in the mid 80's in High School, this shirt was not very popular with school administrators...we still wore them anyway. We were such rebels!

The '80s? Such youth! I remember when a guy was sent to the Principal's office in middle school for wearing High Top Converse (the originals) to class! The good old days when there were no codes! lol

And these "freaking" out the adults at church when their teenagers wore them to a service, oh the horror, the horror! Perhaps the more things change the more they stay the same? Let's not forget what that Rock and Roll will do to you!
