Seriously dude. I would LOVE to have 12-24 hours where I have NOTHING that I have to do. But I have four kids, and a stressful job (but I can't imagine your job is stress free). Like a friend of mine recently said, one kid is like a hobby. Have a couple more and then well see how you feel about some solitude lol. I mean I love my kids and am a very involved father, and that's exactly why I would love a break every once in a while...Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

I mean come on, he can read a novel, binge watch netflix, exercise, listen to music on some nice cans and usb dac, sleep, meditate, etc. Yes it may not be quite as relaxing as a true free break, but I would take it in a heartbeat. The problem is with my profession all I need is my laptop to work, so it wouldn't actually be free...I'd just be working.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

I suppose I really don't have much to complain about. I think I just had cabin fever (or have cabin fever) every time I go there to do that shift.
In the end it's not bad.
12 hours, saw 2 patients. Typically I see between 6-8 in 12h so that was an easy day. The complexity was probably a 5/10 on my own scale, so not bad. I took 2 naps and watched 6 hours of tv. I was able to get Burger King for lunch and I took my time eating it. I came in at 9am, saw the 2 patients at 10-12 noon and I went back to my room. I stayed in my room and never left from 12 noon to 9 pm when the next doctor came in to relieve me. The next patient was rolled in at 915pm which I saw passing by as I rolled out.
In the end, it was an easy day which paid me well. I just don't like that I sit there with the unknown of what will come through the door or when. It's so hard and it's almost like torture to wait and see.
Other docs can disengage completely. They nap or completely have no anxiety over when the next patient comes in or what comes in. But not me... And that's what bugs me.
Case in point, if I do a 24h shift, I usually sleep when I literally pass out from sheer tiredness for maybe 3 hours. Other docs? Knock out for 6-8hours if no patient shoes up.
I just can't do that and I get cabin fever.
But then again I remind myself that this is my break. At my full time job, I see between 16-22 patients in 8 hours.
Here I'm seeing between 2-8 in 12h. Big difference.

You and your first world problems..........Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -
Yeah but I got to be mentally ready for literally anything.
To handle strep throat and also multiple gun shot wound victim or a blue non breathing 6 month old.
That's what keeps me up in my room.

I train with many doctors in Shotokan as well as LEO's. You need some kata to straight en you right out . It's all good I get to beat on cops and when they get all freaky and tase my the docs in the class bring me right back....sadistic mucks they are.....kidding on the last part but to be honest it is fun to hit on LEO's. Without getting charged with ag battery
Thanks for all you do man really.. -
So you're a Doctor? Hardly seems like a problem because you can prescribe your own Meds. Or just drink some single malt like most Docs do, so cliche. lol Don't worry you'll be OK, just stay away from the Schopenhauer!Currently orbiting Bowie's Blackstar.!

Next time you are on duty, let me know. I will upgrade you to a real burger joint. Delivered! Cheap ****. Pay Dr J all this money and the nurses have to share Burger King with you.

How does the place stay in business? The two patients you saw did not even cover your cost let alone the nurses and ancillary peeps.

Actually I don't know.
All I know is the owners are making money off my back especially at the hospital. I bet they could pay me double or triple and still make a hefty profit. I've spoken to the co-owner a few times, very down to earth guy and you wouldn't know just how much he's worth. I would not be surprised if he makes like 25-50x what I pull in.
The owner of my part time gig is richer than sin.... rumor has it from my director that it's like a fun hobby for him.
I've been asked to train to be a medical director for other sites... but I never said yes... I can't work like a dog despite the pay differential. It's just not worth it to me.Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R
