Noticed something odd about my 2Bs.

Normally when I use my 2Bs to listen to music I sit in the center of the sofa so I'm in a triangle with the speakers to get the best SDA effect and they sound great.
When I use my 2Bs to watch TV I sit on the left of the sofa and adjust the balance knob so the sound of voices appears to come from the center of the TV. That way I can grab drinks, food, whatever from the end table easily. The sound is OK but not up to par with listening to music. I've always blamed the degraded sound on the signal from the cable box. Just for the hell of it today I disconnected the interconnect cable while watching TV. With the cable disconnected and sitting on the end of the sofa the sound seems to have more clarity and tighter bass. Maybe even more bass. I guess that is normal because sitting off center on the sofa with the balance twisted toward the right probably does crazy things to the timing of the SDAs normal operation. Just wondering what you guys think?

Do you have your cable box audio running hdmi to AVR or is cable box plugged directly to tv then have a toslink cable from tv to AVR? Might need to check audio input menu settings on tv or AVR. Some tv sets have a setting that's like surround sound.

Ronnie, with the interconnect in place, turning the balance away from you increases the stereo signal to the opposite speaker, and decreases is on the speaker in front of you. I also increases the signal to the dimensional woofer in front of you. Your hearing a mix of stereo and dimensional signals directly, which would sound odd. By disconnecting the interconnect, you're reverting to a regular left-right stereo pair.Home Theater/2 Channel:

RCA cables for sound from the cable box to the Adcom 2ch preamp & amp. HDMI from cable box to TV for video. Nothing fancy on this setup.

I use a center, so really never tried that. Creating a phantom center with an AVR could work somewhat better.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Even though you do have a center speaker would you mind disconnecting your interconnect to see if you gain clarity and more bass while sitting off center as I did? You will loose a little volume that you will have to compensate for to make it an even playing field. The results might be interesting.- SDA 2BTL · Sonicaps · Mills resistors · RDO-198s · New gaskets · H-nuts · Erse inductors · BH5 · Dynamat
