Forget about the MENUS. How many of you are going to spend ALL of today, cleaning up-mopping, dusting, vacuuming, fluffing, primping, washing and, and, and...only to trash your house tomorrow after a HUGE meal and a ton of alcohol? And find your place in much worse shape on Friday while you are also spent from Wed. and Thursday? lol Wonder how many go into cardiac arrest during the football games?

Not me....thanksgiving is at someone elses house so I get to trash their home and simply leave. Not a bad gig when you can get it.

    Dave,
Went to the store today, saw the turnips. Gave them my best evil eye, they didn't flinch. One actually gave me the finger. I picked it up, the little bast@rd and threw it. That puppy bounced like a super ball all the way to the packaged chicken. I turned to strangers in the store...."Did you....Did you see that ?" " Who eats such things ?"

You'd have to boil those things for 3 weeks before softening them up. I've seen car tires with less rubber. They should in fact make audio gear casings out of turnips, they'd last forever for Christ sake.

Since the 80's I have gone to my 2nd family the Carlino house for TG. Besides the 4 birds, Mamma Rose makes her Italian stuffing that in itself is a meal. Not sure exactly what it in there but I know it has ground beef and Italian Sausage and it's sooo good. They start out with Pasta Fagioli and it goes down hill from there.

Since the wife don't care for turkey much, and we had a successful deer hunt so a venison roast, wild rice, green bean cassarole, cornbread stuffing, pumpkin pie, ice cold Sam Adams and a bottle of German Reisling should do the trick.

Sides are au gratin potatoes, mashed potato and gravy, grandma's stuffing, honey glazed carrots and grilled corn on the cob.

Desserts are caramel apple tarts with vanilla ice cream and chocolate fudge sauce and blueberry pie.

Spell "Puck" with an F instead of a P, and you will know what I think of him and his food. I would rather have Geno's deep dish.

  • Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We stayed home and cooked a turducken for the first time. It was good, but as I told my wife, we'll not go out of our way to get another one. Next year it'll be back to good old fashioned turkey again! Made a good dark red roux and made gravy to go on the mashed potatoes and dressing. Had brussels sprouts as a vegetable and my wife made some delicious pumpkin pies for desert. Then it was nap time ;)

For us, spiny lobster has taken the place of the traditional bird. Water's been a bit murky, so the spearfishin' has been tough, but hopefully today or tomorrow morning (with the wind finally out of the north), we find some of those tasty bugs!

Well, we couldn't find any "Bahamian Turkey" in time for actual T-Day dinner (water was too cloudy for a couple days), so we went out and I had this instead:

However, by Saturday, the weather cooperated, and I found a honey-hole and I, my wife, brother, and even the kids brought in 19!

Great to be home again, but we're truly thankful for our family, health, and for being able to spend some time in paradise this year with friends and family. Hope everyone had a truly great Thanksgiving!
