Boy I tell ya these 707s and N-6361 are of a different pedigree

I have finally gotten back out of the dungeon listening to the Ushers and am spending some time in the parlor with the Polks and the same music has a totally different character. Maybe I am getting it now? The Polks seem warmer and the Ushers seem more precise? So far I think the Polks do better with vocals and the Ushers are better with instrumentals. All in all I think my preference is more about my mood than the particular sound. Oh and damn me, the 707 system still needs some warm up time to get going good.

FWIW the Polks are in a bigger room with hardwood floors and lots of reflective surfaces and adjoining rooms and the Ushers are in a small carpeted room with drapes etc.

That's the reason why I have more than one rig. When I want jazz, blues, certain vocals I go Ushers. When I like to rock, folk, or classic rock I like my Dyn's, poorly recorded music I go LSi25's or LSi7's

Great idea but spensive! I am really happy with both systems but I kinda wish I had more multichannel music to feed the Polk system it rocks out with Steve Wilson's recordings.

Class A has detail but sometimes needs to be smoothed out by warmth. Took me a while to find the right tubes for my pre with the XA30.5.

Also the reason I'm going with Modwright LS100 with the Thresholds...praying this combo will work as well as I think.

@txcoastal1 I am running the Ushers on lack of class A's and I am loving it so far. I am sure curious where I could go from here but I just got me a new car note for my princess. I will deal with my son later. He is all jazzed that I am hooking him up with my spare monitors lol ugh.

That post was pointed @Skip and the Usher R1.5. It's a class A amp that somewhat mimics the Threshold design

Bruce stay where you are far now...ignore me

but the new speakers will give you some nice variety and a way to change it up now & then.

  • When I had several different setups, LSIM and Ushers, it came down to my mood. Do you want music to pull you in or come at you?

The M's are mellow. Wind down and ready to call it the day.

Ushers. I am not done with this day yet, hit me.

When tied (cabling) with the right upstream such as amps, pre's and a stellar DAC... Yeah. Game over.

My Usher's will never leave me.

The amp is such a beast I think it actually scared my Denon HEOS Link that was sitting underneath it. It went on the fritz last night and tonight I had to reconnect it to the network. Now its on the other side of the rack hiding on the other side of the AMR CD player and seems to be happy again.

Which amp is this? Maybe I missed it somewhere.

End game goal. Those, or Volterras first? That's the real question. I don't know what I'd do either from a personal or a business standpoint.

The Usher R1.5 and Elba bass control is incredible. I wish I could get that with my SET amps. I think if I got the right tubes up front, it would really be a strong combination.

    HMMMM good question

No. I've been fighting a bug all week and fallen behind on some things. I have my long conference block tomorrow and plan on getting that and many other things caught up.

Sunday I took a nap from noon to 2, went and picked up my kids and the amp, then came home and went back to bed at 6 to wake up at 7 the next morning. I went to bed at 8 on Monday and slept until 6:30 on Tuesday. Would've been in bed earlier, but I fought to make sure B could go to gymnastics Monday night.
