TV Calibration

How often do you or have you calibrated your tv? Last time I did our plasma was about 8 yrs ago. Should this be done every so often? or should a one time calibration work? I don't see anything wrong with our set but perhaps it's because our eyes have slowly been watching the colors fade (for lack of a better word).

Thanks

M TV was calbrated based on the existing gear (Blueray player, AVR, and cables) at that time. Over the years I have upgraded the Oppo, spliced a Shunata power cord into the TV, upgraded the power cables on the Oppo, and added a Triton for the gear, and a Hydra for the TV. Each one of these has changed the picture, so I should get it recalibrated, but haven't yet. It still looks really good, but I am sure it is out of calibration spec.

I get you, I've added a new HDMI avr, a new BRP, new HDMI cables, not sure if any of those have affected it. I'm sure it won't hurt to pop in my calibration DVD, actually I don't have the BR version....hmmm

If you are doing the disc I would say you would want to do it when you change out items. However if you did it based upon a professional calibration within the TV settings I wouldn't figure you need to update unless the life of the TV is starting to go and the color fade is just due to time left on the life.

I use the DVE bluray method, and have always been very pleased with the results. I did check it a few months ago, and my Panny was still dead on.

If the colors are appearing dull, it might be because Plasma's on average lose their brightness over time. I believe it was something like 10 years old and they are at half brightness......generally speaking. You can try turning up the brightness in the settings and see if that helps.

I'm not saying it looks bad. Just wondering if most people do it every couple of years.

Professionally....no, with a disk, yeah. Even though I do it with a disk every few years, it only makes slight improvements. Those improvements get smaller as your set gets older and loses brightness. At some point, it won't matter at all I guess is what I'm trying to say.
