The
Thanks to DSkip my Ushers arrived today and a kid at Xmas I postponed the rest of my calls for the day and called it a week.

First unboxing... They look heavy... they are... mounted them on the beautiful stands and connected them to my tube amp (for now).

First off the visual... absolutely stunning... Excellent craftsmanship and detail in this price range.

For the ears...very sweet... listening to some Fagen... I have far from an optimum room, but my first impression is that they melt in to the sound stage and the tweets are incredibly accurate. Not the least bit harsh or shrill...pure silk.

My other first impression is that they sound huge... These are by no means small speakers, but they sound much bigger than their size. Detailed at all volumes.

Absolutely no mud or boom in the mid bass driver at all. Vocals are very lifelike and I am going to like these ... they seem to like tube although I haven't tried them on a S's amp yet.

So far 2 sausage thumbs up..

    Kinda diggin the tube synergy for now...very nice with the kt88's... sometimes kt88's are a little boomy but not here. I might connect them to my A21 to..I have a few options as far as amps go and am always fiddlin with things...so that might be an option.

    The VR3 703's are very balanced with the exception of the low end which I feel on the 703's (Vr3 or not) is a tad embellished. The tweeter in the 703's is very nice.. the mids really shine in the 703's.

    As far as the the Ushers go... Nothing jumps out as needing or lacking... the imaging/soundstage is superb even in less than optimal room at any volume.... and they seem to love tubes where with the 703's i thought tubes (KT88's) tended to feed into the bass over exaggeration of the 703's.

    The 703's are still a great value at F&F sale prices the mods definitely improve the overall quality of the sound esp. on the mids and highs...The DMD tweeters are incredible cymbals are amazing vocals bring tears to your eyes.

    The Ushers are a couple of classes above imho... much more dynamic and superior soundstage... almost invisible.

    Thanks Mikey, That's kinda what I thought but was hoping the 703's would have been closer. I really enjoy my 703's in my setup but now I'm thinking the next step up would be speakers but for now I'm content...lets see how long before I get the itch. ;)

    Been listening to some classical music from my playlist and the x's will bring tears to your eyes. My MC 100B is very quiet yet dynamic enough to bring great SQ with this combo... Still WOW'ED

    I know you have the Parasound combo A21+P5 and the Peachtree and the Mc100b. So have you tried all three and which do you prefer with the Ushers?

    For now I just have them plugged in to the MC100B.. I will in the future be testing them with those and additionally with my restored Marantz 2385.

    These are not what I would consider "power hungry" speakers. They just sound great with my tubes...

    The real star of the show with the Ushers is the DMD tweeter's that for this price range are in a class all by themselves.

    Been listening tonite with the Ushers and the Yaqin MC100B.. Switched to triode mode... The change in depth and warmth is ridiculously noticeable. Been listening to Jazz to hard rock to vocals at moderate volume. The Ushers blow the 705's out the window...And the 705's are not bad... Just the soundstage with the Ushers is amazing...I can give the 705's like 10x the power but the Ushers are just better in every way with 25 watts of TR tubification.

    I am not surprised. Dont know if I will ever have the money but I would not hesitate to buy the next step up in the Usher line from what I have.

    Very deep too.... I know it sounds silly but in this config I swear the center channel is playing... But it ain't... Plus I can't understand where the bass is coming from... not like the sub is playing but bery tight and punchy bass that just seems to work for every song. Never muddy or blahch.
