Swapping Polk SDA 2Bs for Def Tech BP10B. Am I nuts?
I dunno. The SDAs have gotten a bit bright. They aren't really thrilling me as much anymore. And they take up a lot of room.
I have a line on a decent condition pair of BP10Bs not to far from my house. I think I can get them for 350. Did some reading on them and they get some pretty consistent good reviews.
Any thoughts on my possible switch?

Hey Bill,
I am pretty sure on yours we bypassed the polyswitch, I can walk you through on how to install a .5 ohm resistor to tone down the brightness a tad. Shoot me an email when you can.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I owned the BP10B for years, its great for movies and ok for music - the bipolar array does tend to blur the finite details we tend to look for in music- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Def Tech is very hard to beat for HT, my next home theater will be Def Tech, but IMO - go with the models with built in subs, no comparison to the passive models, especially for HT.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

For HT you are definitely not nuts. HT is what Sandy Gross and his designs excel at.
Someone suggested to me that I may want to go with one of the models that has a built in sub. I already have a killer sub so would I be ok going with the BP10?TV: 65" Samsung QLED 4K

Nothing beats a home theater experience with subs on every channel!
Just ask ol Sandy, the CLR3000 is a TANK! (10" sub!)- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

There is a pair of STS for sale right now, good price to. They are amazing speakers. It doesn't matter you have a good sub,, these speakers are crazy amazing for full range use. Music or movies doesn't matter.Dan

I haven't heard the EVO line but I did used to own a pair of Diamond bookshelf Wharfedales and they were pretty good. I don't think they'd be as good as Def Tech at HT though, but maybe the EVO's are better than the Diamonds at that?afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

I was loaned a pair of BP10s to audition. There's like no bottom end at all. There's loose glue around the surrounds so that may be the issue. Gonna call Def Tech today to see what they say.TV: 65" Samsung QLED 4K

What tweeters are you using in your 2B's? Have you TL'd them?

Maybe VR3's rec to replace the jumper with a 0.5 Ohm resistor will give him the sound he desires.
OP - please post your findings if you make the switch.

Well, I have a buyer for the SDAs, and I just got a pair of Def Tech BP10s for FREE! The guy who had the pair let me take them home to audition. Long story short, there was barely any bass and the drivers looked like they were repaired, messily, and the glue was peeling. I called Def Tech's Customer Service and they told me to write down the model #s on the drivers. They also said that as long as I'm getting midrange that I should be getting bass. Thanks alot. The guy refused to believe that a delaminating issue would affect the bass and not the midrange.
Anyway, once I relayed all this info to the buyer and said that I was going to return the speakers to him he said "just keep them, discard them, or give them to a thrift store." He's moving to Texas and doesn't want to be bothered with the hassle of trying to sell "broken" speakers.
So, I have to dig into these babies and find out what the deal is. I'm wondering if it's an electronics issue. To replace the drivers it would be $80 per for a total of 360. Hopefully a neat re-glue on the surrounds will do the trick.TV: 65" Samsung QLED 4K

That's pretty awesome man, you could probably find a beat up set (cosmetics) and have a whole new set of drivers, tweeters, crossovers, etc- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Thanks for the heads up. Def Tech stocks those drivers at $80 each. One of the front drivers is rubbing near the coil so that's prob the culprit. Gonna take everything apart this weekend and do some testing and rewiring.TV: 65" Samsung QLED 4K

Had BP30's for several years. Don't be surprised when after you repair the 10's that they still have no bass. Published specs are very optimistic on low frequency extension. They really need a sub. In my not so humble opinion, they are horrible for music , home theater, meh. They just never really did it for me.
-
Awesome that you got them for free.
I also had a pair of BP30's back in the day. I agree that they did better for HT than 2 channel. Lower bass was nonexistent. I had them paired with a velodyne sub and it was ok....
I also agree with others that the Def Tech speakers with built in subs bring the HT to another level. I now have a set of BP-7002's and a CLR2500. Each of those has its own sub and it can put out a pounding during a movie.
I much prefer my other speakers (Legacy) for 2 channel as the Def Techs don't seem to image all that well. If volume is what you are looking for then they may just be what the doctor ordered.
Good luck with them.2 Channel Rosso Fiorentino Volterra II, 2 REL Carbon Limited, Norma Revo IPA-140B, Lumin U2 Mini, VPI Prime w/SoundSmith Zephyr MIMC, Modwright PH 150, Denon DP-59l w/Denon DL-301MKII, WAY Silver 3 Ana+ Speaker Cables, WAY Silver 4+ Interconnect Cables, AudioQuest Niagara 7000 w/Dragon and Hurricane Power Cables -

So, after replacing two bad drivers in the BP10s and getting a good listen to them I've decided that they're not in the same league as the SDAs. Had to cancel the sale...I just can't bring myself to let those babies go! So now I'm refinishing the base and end caps of the BP10s to make them look as new again and then I'll decided what to do with them.TV: 65" Samsung QLED 4K
