Ok, I got about 35 flame suits on and may need more
    lol

All in all that turned out nice for how you'll be using it and where it's sitting.
And you even posted full-res photos. Pretty brave, man, pretty brave :)

Some people don't care about stuff like this at all, but this would essentially devalue the unit for me by a factor of at least half, if I wouldn't just pass on it altogether. I've become really picky about modifications to stuff like audio gear and vehicles. I don't mind if it's done competently/comes with the parts to return to oe condition. Hopefully you'll be enjoying it for a long while, though, and won't have to think about that.

If you ever wanted to neaten it up, you could find someone with a belt or disk sander with perpendicular guide and fine sanding media.

Glad it worked out to your satisfaction!

Do me one favor.... buy a laptop cooler to mount above it. Your doing yourself NO FAVORS by DRASTICALLY limiting airflow in there. A laptop cooler will at least pull the hot air up and out of the unit......

    Otherwise looks nice...

Yea, my thought is if I ever have to sell it I would see if the devaluation to a buyer would be more than the cost of a new faceplate. If I couldn't sell it the way it is, I would then buy a new faceplate and sell it. If I end up with this sucker for a long time, though, I probably wont have to worry about it.

Thank you for the honest remarks :)

I can look into that, Dan, but I've been running it for a couple hours now and it's hardly warm to the touch. It's got a foot of clearance and completely open in the back.

    I'm sure a fan wouldn't hurt, however.

I'm just jealous you cut up a perfectly good face plate.... looks good though where it sits.

I was going to say the same thing about getting a fan . I have a HCA-1200ii and it can run fairly warm, sounds like your 1500 doesn't run as warm though? I commend you on the trimming of the ears, you took the matter into hand and got 'er done. :) As the Marines say "improvise". ;)

Sure thing man, anytime. Overall I think it turned out pretty nice.
One more thing I'll throw out there just from a Parasound Preservation Society perspective - maybe check on the availability of those faceplates to see whether there may be limited supply to determine whether you want to pick one up at some point anyway even if you've no plans to sell the unit. It sure would be a shame to be without the option down the road if you ever found yourself in need or want of one, but I do get where you're coming from on the cost savings at this point.

After my Integra issues I put fans on items I can, especially if they are enclosed that tight on more than 2 sides.

Plus the fans are like 20 bucks normally...

Do you put the fans on top facing up? Or facing in?

Laptop coolers in theiR NORMAL configuration pull air up from the bottom toward the laptop you'd put on top so its like an exhaust fan

Came out looking pretty good. With it in the enclosure, it look like it's hard to see the amp anyway.

As others have said, I would look at picking up that new face plate sooner rather than later. That way you have it available if you ever want to sell it. It would suck if you wanted to sell it and find out it's now gone...

I think it looks pretty darn good considering the method used. I'd leave it as is, as long as it's functional the cost of a new face plate is kinda mute at this point.
