I call upon the minds of PA for a little bit of help.
I'm running a slightly order Toshiba Satellite laptop and since upgrading to 10, i'd like to transfer over to an SSD to help speed this thing up a bit.
I grabbed this a while ago http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147372
I've downloaded the EaseUS Todo Backup tool as ive read a couple different threads on it. Is there a better tool?
So, how do i do this?! Can i hook the SSD up as an external, clone to the drive, then swap with the drive in the laptop? Is that it? Am i going about this wrong?
Help please...

... hook up as external drive. then right click on "My Computer" and click "manage", then "Storage" and "Disk Management" this will recognize the drive. then just clone your drive.
below is a great deal on SSD drives.

... Forgot...Do not format. Make sure drive is Unallocated. Drive needs to be Initialized

Alright.....so the drive is on the storage list as unallocated. I have it hooked up to the laptop via serial ATA to esata. The software will not recognize the drive in it current location. Should i swap over to an external and use USB?Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!

Yes, this connection method/process can be used, but may depend on the software. I usually use Acronis, but see if you can hop on the Apricorn website and pull down a copy of their EZGig software. I've used that before with success, as well.

SATA/ESATA will be much faster, but if its not detecting after a couple of reboots, just switch over to external USB to get it done. If you're already in the case, I'd just go SATA and try the Apricorn software.
Presuming here that you're shutting down between these SATA connects/disconnects. I know it probably goes without saying, but I'm saying it anyway Sometimes additional ports have to be enabled in the BIOS, but it sounds like you're seeing connectivity, so probably not an issue.Post edited by msg onI disabled signatures. -

I've been using Acronis for the last 6 or 7 years. Foolproof, and with a few clicks you're in business. Easy Linux based GUI when you boot from the CD.Home Theater/2 Channel:
