How would you guys/gals consider Boston vs Def Tech. I do about 35:65 Music:Movies. Music is all over the place, no lie... movies, I love action! A lot of my music is pretty bass heavy, but I do listen to a bit of jazz and music where clarity in the highs and strong mids help. I enjoy my VR975's, but wondered how def techs, say the BP7002's or other used models compare? I have an Epik Empire for sub, but honestly want a comparison, just going by towers alone. Thanks!

This is a shootout I would personally like to conduct. Way back in the day I installed the VR975's when they where brand new. They look alomost exactly like a Def Tech model. From a distance you wouldn't be able to tell which one is which as they even both use the Gloss black caps.
As far as sound quality goes, I think vs those older models they might be a difficult shootout meaning they are both going to do many thins well.
I'm not sure if the older Def Tech models are going to out perform them. I remember so many times thinking that I should by the entire system. All Boston Acoustic speakers back in that era where fantastic. The Micro 90 system was amazing as well as the system 10K.
I'm curious where do you live? I'm right outside of Philadelphia Pa and would love to conduct this shootout.
If your serious about the 7002's and found a great deal on a good pair, buy them and compare in your system with your music. The worse thing could happen is you sell off one of them and then know which one was better.
It's so funny you want to do this as I have for years wondered this very question.
If your far away, please post your results.Dan

Sitting here remembering all the systems I have done with both brands, I'm gonna lean towards the Def Tech's especially for the low end. Def Tech internal sub's are better then the Bostons from what I can remember. We always added a Sub in just about all cases when using the 975's. yes they can hold their own but sounded much better with another sub.

Thanks for your responses Mantis. I enjoy the 975's, but want more of... well... what they have lol. Unfortunately, I'm not in a financial position to afford the def tech set at the moment, though that may eventually change. I reside in Sarasota, FL; so a good bit away otherwise you'd be more than welcome to hear both, if I can get the money before they sell. They're not priced "well," so that buys me some time. Considering the Bostons are powered, and their age, it gives me a little unease with the plate amps. I've had not so good luck with buying powered towers, the amps working when I buy them, and then eventually starting to hum, or pop, or what have you. I think for my style, Def Techs would likely be the way to go... I've just never heard any of their powered towers.LivingRoom
