Oldrocker has inspired me to get my 2385 rebuilt... It is all original and I found someone who will do a complete rebuild. I packed it up today and she is on her way. In a few weeks it will be better than new. Mine looks pretty good and sounds good too but I would like the piece of mind that all of those electrolytic caps and any other marginal components are replaced. so it can go another 40 years. I might not make it another 40 but hopefully someone will appreciate it.

Already shipped out? Who's your tech your using? I want mine redone too but I have not utilized anyone on this type of project.

Well I hope in all that you will get a re-alignment for the tuner section it is often forgotten when we get a recap. It should really help with one that old.

Yes the tuner cap cleaning and re-alignment is on the list.

My 2385 is officially off for refurb. Sipped it Monday and it was received in good shape by the doctor. Should be back in a couple/three weeks . Until then I have plenty of toys to keep me occupied.

Yup 1929 Detroit with push button tuning. 100% restored and functional with the original speaker.

I am not the receiver guy but that's one beautiful Marantz receiver you got! I know some people absolutely adores vintage receivers and this has got to be one of the well preserved 2385 in existence. It should last another 20-30 years after a full recap job and the tuner alignment.

My stock wood case is so bland compared to yours . When did you buy the case before 1980 ? Just curious. I bought the optional case when it was offered.

The case is old but it might be an aftermarket I can't tell... It is in nice shape but not perfect. These cases really make the big receivers stand out.

I have only had this since 2013. I see some of these going for stupid money but after all the work and refurb I think I will hold on to it for a long time...

Btween me my dad and my nephew we did it... It was working when I found it and there really isn't much to them...transformer tuner tube sockets and a speaker... they are a loota fun.

I believe you said you had the blue LED's put in yours.

Have you ever seen a 2385 with the white LED's as I've not still not decided which one's I'll have put in mine.

I have not seen one with white LED's. I seem to recall F1 talking about LED's previously and would defer to his opinion. I think the white ones will still show blue as there is a filter between the lamps and the dial. If they show blue now they will show blue with white LED's however. IMO go with your gut ... they are not that hard to replace if you don't like them.

I used a white LED strip in my Marantz 2252.
It worked pretty well.

I re-read his comments. I'll probably go the blue's but will order a set of the whites to compare the two.

What I'd also like is to find out about is the type of wood and stain that my SDA's were manufactured with so when I do have a case built, everything will match as close as possible.

The veneer is walnut on the sda's. The finish well that's a whole nother trick. Mine were just sprayed with satin lacquer and no stain, they don't match the Marantz cabinet tho. but a stain will darken it for sure... matching is tough. Lacquer is way nicer than poly imho.

I picked up a 2220B at a garage sale about a month ago. I knew these were highly regarded little 20wpc receivers. I like it a lot. It only has one back light bulb out. Other than that it needed cleaned and a Deoxit job.

Nice Marantz sound. Maybe a rebuild is in its future. Right now it has bedroom duty and is up for sale on CL.

She cleaned up pretty nice. Hard to beat for the price.
