Mortite vs Armacell

I have been reading through some of the posts comparing Armacell to Mortite. The consensus, plus DK's analysis, seemed to be that the Armacell outperforms Mortite when used in conjunction with Larry's rings. I will be using hurricane nuts on my SRS 3.1TLs. Armacell is so much easier to work with that I would prefer to use that. But is there any reason to prefer Mortite with the hurricane nuts?

If the stock gaskets are not damaged there's no reason to change them.

Well, the press test pushes the MWs out for 1-2 seconds. Given the size of the SRS 3.1TLs and the number of openings, is that normal?

Once the Hurricane Nuts and machine/cap screws are installed, you can tighten the Woofers and PRs much easier. You should inspect all the gaskets before hand, and make sure they're intact, and usable. I would recommend replacing the Tweeter gaskets however. The plastic bezels are easily deformed if tightened too much, and the old gaskets may not seal properly.

Thanks, everyone. It will be a while before I get them back together. I will be JB Welding the magnets, Dynamatting the baskets, and replacing the IC sockets first.

Use Loctite Power Grab instead of JB Weld. Dries Clear, cleanup with soap and water.
Can also use it to re-seal the cabinet interior, as it contains no silicone.

We fought off the Loctite Power Grab until our Mortite ran out and the Armacells overran our defenses.

My gaskets were shot so I also went the Armacell route. All you need is a sharp blade, cutting surface and some minor measuring and is very easy to work with. I think the roll cost me around $8 at Home Depot . Never even considered Mortite as a caulk would be way more messy. I also used Larry's Rings.

I have some Mortite around. I believe I used it to seal, not speakers but some drafty windows in my old house last winter. It can be messy, depending.

If you mean compressed to hell (paper thin), they should be that way. Any new gasket material should also be able to be compressed to hell otherwise the basket is not really one with the bezel as it should be.

Jesse if your talking to me then no, When I pulled out the drivers to do the Dynamatting most of the gaskets either disintegrated ,fell apart when pulled off and a least one was so thin and stuck to the driver it looked weathered and beat to me. So my argument of having pristine stock 2Bs in a 20 something year old coma went by the wayside after being told that age, sun, room temp and modern mods will bring those to better than spec was true and I'm getting no leakage w/ using the Armacell / Larry's rings combo.
