Mcintosh MA5200 overkill for CRS?

My eBay CRS's arrived safe and sound and it's time to step up from my NAD 7225 receiver so I can hear them sing prior to upgrading. I have a line on a used (30 hours) Mcintosh MA5200 from a friend (funding an expedition/long story) but I'm not sure if that would be considered overkill. I'd be happy with the right vintage product, but this presented itself...any advice?

AFAIK a lot of the gear experienced people around here do not prefer McIntosh to other choices.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

That's pretty much all I need to hear.

What about pairing a sub with crs+ ? I'm guessing that with proper power, this wouldn't be necessary for the average listener?
-
The CRS+s are fine for 2 channel, by themselves, but don't go as deep as their big brothers. A quality 10" or 12" sub designed for music, will fill the bottom in nicely.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Thanks all...another quick question for those who know more than me. Is the Peachtree nova220SE 'common ground' ?
The description on the website confuses me:
"In addition to being the most powerful, the nova220SE is the only nova to feature a dual-mono balanced stereo amplifier"

That 5200 is rated at 100w/chan...very conservative...good sound and not overly bright like a lot of today's amps are...Good build quality..very good resale value and very versatile for today's source gadgets...check it out man,you won't be disappointed with its performance...
-
Thank you msabot1 - that does answer some of my curiosity. What I'm really wondering is if it would be overkill to power the CRSs with it...or worth it!
-
It won't be overkill, it will most likely be a good pairing...
-
Those CRS should be able to handle that 5200 easily....a couple of my buddies have them powered by gear twice that rating...The warm reproduction of that piece should match nicely...by the way...I have a vintage MC 240 mated to 10 b's and 707's..switched back and forth for 2chan....and I love the sound...

Goes to show that some experienced people don't know everything.
McIntosh gear is among the most sought after gear in the used market.
McIntosh equipment sounds incredible and its build quality is second to none.
That is the direction that I went with.
Let your ears decide, and if you think there's something better, they sell quite well on ebay.

I've heard the Ampino on a set of 3.1tl's and was amazed at the clarity of it.I bet it would make a good pairing with the Crs's.I ordered one for my 3.1's and will try it with some B&W bookies I have also.I guess it all depends on your budget.2 Channel

Amplifier distortion is a bigger issue and dangerous to drivers, it happens sonner in low power amps.
