After many hours of gentle running and massive cleaning, NOW all static gone.
Found a "useable" volume button that fits for now, will need the entire 15Hz button as it was actually "snapped" off at the plastic leaving not enough to grip the cap. Also going to need some jumper pins for the rear.

However, during the first part of running and after first cleaning, I got an intermittent L peak & R peak light up and was still slight having static.

So,back apart she came, took out the volume control, popped back in, went up in volume, no peak lights and no static.

So far so good. I'm not doing the lights as the volume control was enough for me.

You inspired me to put my 2265 back in rotation today. Certainly not the MONSTER you have above, but it has the house sound!

Ain't that the "ugliest" volume knob you ever seen...It's all I had to use.

I am tempted to "stretch" her out. I did hit 30 on the volume. I'll tell you, it's sounds VERY good especially on the 2 B's I got with the loudness button activated.

I just have to decide on which color of lights to have them replace. :/

Mikey, I don't have a manual for this thing. Do you know what the
    "multi path" button is for?
  • The multipath switch is for when you are using a rotatable FM antenna. FM reception may be further optimized by pointing the antenna in the in the proper direction for minimum multipath. First, tune to the desired station. Then hold in the multipath switch while rotating the FM antenna. Stop the antenna at the position for which a minimum deflection is indicated on the MULTIPATH meter. Then, release the switch to restore the meter to it's normal SIGNAL STRENGTH function.

will need the entire 15Hz button as it was actually "snapped" off at the plastic leaving not enough to grip the cap.

You can drill a hole in both pieces, then epoxy a metal rod in the holes. Since it's just a push button that should last a very long time.

I've had a number of Marantz receivers through here.
I can tell you right now recapping them really improves things.
I've been holding on to the 1150 integrated. I should of not sold the 2252.
But the same could be said of all the other Marantz receivers as well.
I like Marantz and Sansui. Not as fond of Kenwood or Pioneer.
This looks like a good project. You need to go watch
ebay for knobs and a push switch.

Once again THANKS for the info all.

Leaning towards LED, just not sure which at the moment.

I need to make some "temporary" pre amp jumpers as they are not with this unit.

Probably just my old ears but I'm running my old Akai RTR with it pushing my 2B's. Granted, it's not my best tape recording effort but I think I'm hearing what is know as a somewhat "warm/warmer" sound..

That being said, everything is out of "placement" which is due to putting in an old extra stand for this thing to sit on, which then shifted my current setup outwards.

Oh well, one thing at at time... At least it works.... :)

The light from LED's is very different. Most can best be described as cold. Glaringly bright would be another as most have very high MCD ratings. There are other factors to consider such as the color range noted in nm, the angle of light dispersion noted in degrees and whether the LED is clear or diffused.

I recently converted the lights in two matching vintage pieces going through a lot of LED's until I found the ones to my liking. I ended up using blue diffused, 10 MCD (extremely low), 40 degree, 430 nm LED's, which resulted in a soft, warm blue. To me, even a 100 MCD (still extremely low) clear blue was blinding.

That said, your Marantz is backlit, which will help cut down on the glare if using high MCD LED's.

There is also a sheet of vellum between the lights and the dial on the 2385 which diffuses the LED's nicely...

    Ok some confusing stuff.

There is no sheet of "vellum" between the lights and dial. I watched a video how a guy changed some lights on a smaller version marantz and it did have a single sheet of that material. This one has a somewhat "cylinder/tube like" shaped apparatus that the lights are inserted into.

I downloaded the marantz service maual from HiFi engine along with reading at the classic receivers page. This unit has NO dolby and has 2 aux inputs on the rear, it also has a external voltage selector.

The service manual also says that some European models have a E or H on the back identification plate. On this one that plate does have the letter (e).

It appears to me, this one is a European model not a USA model and as per the service manual showing both specs, the only small difference is the wattage at 4 & 8 ohms and overall weight.

If I'm reading these things correct, is their any "sonic" differences between the two different models....better or worse???? Of the 2.

Glare was the wrong word. I should have said intensity. Just about all of the LED lit Marantz receivers I've seen were just to bright for my liking.
