2 Channel Refinements

Did a little moving stuff around between the HT and 2 channel system and now have this rig back in business.

Parasound P5
Parasound A21
Marantz SA 8004
Bluesound Node
Music Hall MM 5.1
MIT Shotgun S's
SDA SRS 2.3
AQ King Cobra balanced and rca interconnects.

I'm seriously torn between a Marantz SA 8004/5 and an Oppo BDP 105...

I think the Marnantz might be a bit more musical, but the Oppo brings A LOT of functionality to the table.

I think you have to weigh it this way:

If you are ONLY going to listen to music, then the Marantz is the plan.

If you are going to watch video as well then the 105 is the ticket.

Either is a very good option that you won't regret.

Blu-Ray playback is a bit of a sticking point for me...

I have several Blu-Ray concerts or albums that would be taken off of the table otherwise.

On one hand, I want the best musicality, on the other, I want it to do everything.

The two main reasons I'm leaning toward the Oppo: Blu-Ray playback and the ability to hook a monitor to it for said Blu-Rays and managing digital playback.

Time will tell. The guy that owns it, has it sitting on a dresser in a 2nd bedroom, covered in dust, not even hooked up.

But I have a plan, he's a bose fan and I have a set of 901's with the eq sitting in the original boxes with about 5 hrs on them. So he's wanting to do dome sort of trade. Heck he can have them straight up, but I'm not telling him that at this point.....

I also had a Marantz DV-7600 that was nothing but problems. Even the repair shops could not figure it out.

The only problem mine had was lamps and a scratch volume pot.. Some LED's alittle deoxit gold did the trick.

I would send it in to get it checked out if there was someone in SW FL who I could trust.

I have the same issue with the volume pot. deox only works so so for some reason. Congrats on a beautiful receiver. My wood case needs some work.

I am hard pressed to imagine something that would give this much value in the 3 to 3.5K price range than the P5 A21 combination. I would like to hear everyone's thought/opinions/comments as I am sure to have drank the Parasound Kool aid at this point.

Parasound Kool-Aid is easy to drink, as it goes down easy. That is a great combo for the money, kool-aid or not.

mikey looks very nice, do have a fan near the A21, Manual recommends 6" clearance above the unit-no heat issues?

The chassis on the A21 is oversized for its purpose because it is also used for the A51 and A31. Heat is dissipated from the large heat sinks on the sides rather than through the vented top. Mike's setup looks fine because the rack is open and there is some clearance at the top. The A21 runs warm rather than hot.

Runs warm with no heat issues what so ever. The heat sinks are almost cool to the touch.

Most... So the Bluesound Nodes, The Marantz AV7702, The Oppo BDP 103D, the Directv Genie and Tidal Streaming Service are controlled by the Samsung Tablet. The only other devices not controlled are the Parasound P5 which might have a infrared app that I can find.
