Help with LCi-RTS Series Speakers

I've had the following setup for about 5 years now in my dedicated HT:

LCi-RTS FX Surround (4x)
LCi-RTSC (1x)
LCi-RTS105 (2x)

Originally powered by: Onkyo TXSR806 R - powering the FX surrounds.
Emotiva XPA-3 600 Watt Three Channel Amplifier - powering the center and front right and left speakers.

About a year and a half ago, the Emotiva would shut off after an hour of usage. I would reset it, and it would shut off again after 15 minutes or so. I switched all speakers to the Onkyo a few months ago and all was fine (I did NOT crank up the volume). A couple of months ago, the Onkyo started acting like the Emotiva. Am I not giving the speakers enough power?

Thanks for any thoughts,

They are 4 ohm speakers if I'm not mistaken, and you should have an external amp on them. The Emo amp may have conked out on it's own due to somewhat of a suspect build quality. Letting the Onkyo handle them wasn't the best of idea's as that has an even weaker power supply than the Emo.

Get some good quality current to those speakers and you should be happy. Amps from Parasound work great with Polk speakers....new or used.

  • You are correct - they are 4 ohm. I was hesitant to run them all on the Onkyo, but I gave into to the family asking when they can watch movies again. I'll look into getting powered amps to run all of them this time. Hopefully the Onkyo will run ok when there is no load on it. Thanks for the quick response - SUTsMe
