Monitor 7s for rear surround?

Hi all, just found some M7s and was wondering if they would make good rear surround speakers. I'm using SDASRS1.2 for the fronts and my 15 year old Technics didn't match (or sound) worth a toot. I am currently using my almost 20 year old Bose 701s but they seem too quiet. I'm guessing these are the 7C as they have what looks like the SL2000 in them.

The 7s will make fine surrounds, same era, same drivers, so no worries about timbre matching.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Nice pickup. Using my 7's as wides. Hanging them to the proper position will be fun.
Pics and/or videos please. -

Dan,
Congrats on the 7's, my personal favorite of the older Monitor line. If your speakers are sounding quiet as surrounds, maybe boost up the levels in your receiver for those channels to your liking.
Nice that you have the 1.2's also, what are you driving those bad boys with ?HT SYSTEM-

The 1.2s are connected to Emo XPA2 (let the haters begin...). The others are on an XPA3. Using XSP1 for 2 channel and XMC1 for surround.
Haven't actually got the M7s yet, found them on local fleabay (make offer). Still waiting for the guy to respond with pics or address. I don't even know if that's a pic of what he has or something he downloaded.
I was just wondering if they have good sound quality and would work decently as surround speakers.

I don't know if I would use them as surrounds or rear surrounds
as the OP said. They are big and need to get to optimal height QED.
Maybe if your room is big enough Dan98.
No emp hating out of me. I have an all emo system in the bedroom
right now w/ the 703's hooked up to it. Sounds real nice. -
I went ahead and bought them for $60. The veneer is a bit rough looking, especially on the bottoms. The drivers appear to be original and they work fine. Need to open them up and glue the magnets before they fall apart... They seem to be 7Cs with late serial numbers over 41000. I'll check the dates on the drivers once I get a chance.
Anyone do veneer work? The scratches all seem to have raised edges. Can I sand the veneer down some or will I run into the MDF or particle board too quick? If I could smooth the scratches, I'd like to try a furniture wax stick and buffing it really good to fill and and hopefully mask the damage. I'm thinking it might be about .5 mm thick, but not sure if Polk used pre-finished veneer only .25 mm thin. Also, how quickly does the veneer start to change color once I start sanding? Is the top of the veneer like a sealant layer and can it be stained once the sealed top layer is off?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Dan

Congrats! Personally, 7s as surrounds is a waste of a nice secondary 2.0 system? I'd use Monitor 5 or 4s for that. No, you can't sand vinyl! But there are threads here about how to remove that and prep the surface for wood veneer. F1nut knows a lot more about that, I'm pretty incompetent when it comes to refinishing wood surfaces.Currently orbiting Bowie's Blackstar.!

Actually, you can sand the vinyl. If the scratches didn't penetrate, use a good degreaser, like Purple Power, or Denatured Alcohol, to remove any dirt and wax buildup.
Use a 400 grit wet/dry paper with a rubber block, keep vacuuming to keep the dust off, until the scratches are smooth. I use a pigmented wiping stain, to fill the cracks with color, then wipe off the excess. Wait a few hours, buff them, and let them sit for 24-48 hours more. You can also top coat the vinyl.Home Theater/2 Channel:

I fixed the grills on the cheap. They were looking pretty fuzzy. I used something I found in the wife's sewing cabinet to get the fuzzies off and after a quick vacuum and wipe down, they turned out alright. The dark spots are where they are still a bit wet.
