I wrote the show off after watching 2-3 episodes when it came out. Last night I caught up on it including the first episode of second season and it actually does get a lot better.
When you're at the bottom, no place else to go but up I suppose. Still a Borefest, but I did learn that Zombies either float or can swim.
Now if sharks or other aquatic predators ate the Zombies, that would be interesting.Home Theater/2 Channel:

I think it took until episode 3 to start to take off. I wrote my post above just after watching it. Late at night, and my inner 8 year old beginning to wonder whether there was anything in the dark back yard, lumbering toward the house. I got up and closed my blinds.
I agree that if I had to wait a week between episodes, I may not have kept up. It's probably difficult to lead into this story. It would be just plain generic if it were just another comet-crashes-into-Earth-radiation-immediately-turns-people-into-zombies kind of story, and no different than TWD if they just jumped right into it. I like that there's still (at this point) the question of where it really came from, and that no one really knows much about it yet.
There's another zombie movie that features swimmers - Land of the Dead, with John Leguizamo. Ever so slightly campy.I disabled signatures. -
I finally caught up on seasons 1 & 2 and like others it took awhile to say that I liked this show, but now I think it's going to just as good or even better then the TWD as the characters develop some get killed off (of course) and new ones are added it will be a great show.
