That's a small room for the 9's. Set them to small and enjoy what you've got. If you end up in a bigger room one day, then look into adding a power amp.

  • 17by14 isn't that small
  • Ya I know my last room was a lot bigger I'm only in this house for a couple years till I'm done my electrical apprenticeship wouldn't hurt to get the gear I need tho I'm really looking for a amp that will give me clarity and depth not LOUD

There is a realtionship between the size of the speakers and the room size that cannot be ignored. In your case, regardless of what is driving the speakers, the room size will limit what they can do. As it is you have the speakers basically jammed against the side walls, which causes smearing and severely limits the soundstage due to instant reflection. Speaking of which, you have a lot of hard surfaces. One thing you can do is to put an area rug in front of the speakers. That should help you achieve a bit more of the clarity and depth you desire. Throw a heavy blanket or comforter on the floor to get an idea. Soft artwork on the walls will help as well.

Toe in seems a little extreme too to your sitting position, could just be the optical thing too. That's some long speaker cables your having to use set up like that, what are you using ?

Anyway, Parasound amps work very well with RTI speakers.

That is the most common misconception with having a powerful amp. Everyone always thinks it's all about volume. It is NOT. The biggest improvement I got when I got a Parasound 1500A 205wpc amp was not that it could go insanely loud, but that at my normal volume and even at lower volume, I was able to hear every single detail of what I was listening to. I could hear things in my cds that I had never picked up on until I got that amp.

That is the true benefit of getting a separate amplifier to power your speakers. It allows your speakers to operate to their full potential.
Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2
  • I'm in the process of making these sound panels for the walls in the room hence why I have nothing on any of the walls right now

25 feet may be a little on the long side for 16ga. I am running my front on a Parasound A31. It is kind of expensive but was really nice when I had the 70s up front.
  • 70's? polk audio monitor 70's
  • i just went on their site no$$$ talk what does that run at??
  • what is really the difference between the 70's and my A9's

Not really but a heavier gauge wire like 14g would work better. 16g will start to cause a bit more resistance over that distance then 14g would. With the 8 ohm load and 100+ watts from the receiver depending on how many channels your driving it's not really an issue.

ya with the wire moulding i ran i wouldnt have been able to fit the 14g but im supper ocd so thats why i ran my stuff neat like that im only renting this house for a while all of my questions really arent for my current room they are for the future i have had my speakers in a bigger room with carpet floors and little to no windows in the room my stuff sounds great the way it is i am only really looking and preparing for the future when i get out of the house i am in and in a house where my stuff will work at its optimal level i have a JL E112 sub in my mind one of the best u can get for what it is..

all i want to do is get warmth and depth out of my speakers mostly when like i watch movies and morgan freeman is talking i want to hear his voice sound really deep threw my setup

i have friends that when watching a movie turn it up to like -2 i ushally only go to like -12 MAX even when i had a good room but i really just want to get my front threw speakers to their optimal operating capacity

the halo A31 from parasound looks like it would be good.

Also what are your guys thoughts on my Marantz SR7007????
