would you buy an orphan like this

I can't tell what monitor it is and getting through to this guy is a nightmare. Listed price is $20 but if wanted I'm sure I could get it for less. My 7s only have 1 driver and here the both the tweeter and 1 mid dust cap are pushed in. He never shows another speaker I think it's1 of 1. Corner is chewed also.

Sure looks like a Monitor 10B to me, with its SL-2000 tweeter. Those midwoofers should be MW6503s, if memory serves me right.

If the drivers work and the surrounds are good, it's definitely worth a few shekels. You can also try the painter's tape trick on the dust cover to bring back the shape.

vvvvAwesome price. Hope you score those..... I had some drivers & tweeters in the past that were like that - pushed in. I used a vacuum hose & they came out great & one i cut open 98% of the voice coil dust cap & used my pinky & lightly pushed it out & reglued them. Still using them 3 years later.
    ..
20.00 is even worth 1 if the drivers work & if you have a campfire pit your styling :)

The drivers alone are worth the asking price, as long as they're functional. I too use a vacuum to pull out the dust caps, but I wet them first with an artist's brush, and warm water with a little fabric softener mixed in.

Thanks for the tip. Never thought about doing that.. Ive done other brand speakers that maybe by doing that they would have came out better. I did the cut dust cap on a spare Polk driver just to say i did it. Great results too.

Thing is, it might not be them as in a pair of speakers but yes a pair of drivers. Sounds like a kid who keeps saying they/it plays very loud. Sometimes loud = major distortion. I was really nice and only asked if there was a set. We shall see. it's a town away again no tolls and minim gas, just the way I like it. Unlike P-Man who will travel quite a ways for a set of speakers.. Good luck Bill on those Polks ...

One other thing Dave, I thought you once said the vacuum method could rip the sh%t of the cap and swallow the whole thing.

Just got an E-Mail from this dude and already he's down to $15. I implored him to call me. Still never answered the question is it a pair or an orphan as I think it is.
I wish I could show you his reply I think he's not all there.

    It's just one, no doubt.
Works, I am playing it now, come over and see.

Finally the dude called and I did agree to meet him tomorrow. I said I'm hearing this speaker 1st and he agreed and then he began to start to compare comps and I told him you have 1 speaker that looks like hell and only if all drivers, tweeter and grill cover are working and are in decent shape I'll take it. I already know the cabinet is beat up and quite frankly I don't need the thing but if I hammer him to toss it I just might bring it home. 6503s I could use between my 2Bs and M7s but being only 1 speaker it's got me thinking to just walk away. I'm way to conflicted. w/ gas here at a low now at $2.15 that's half a tank for me for that $15 of a speaker I don't need.

What?...wait, above you said, "it's a town away again no tolls and minim gas, just the way I like it", which makes it sound like it's just a hop and a skip down the road.

No conflict. Just go meet the guy, it sounds like a good story in the making... ;)

I'm going, and if it's in worse shape then I'll just tell him to toss it to the curb. I doubt he's got ANY hits on his ad because of the 1 speaker and the shape that it's in.

I passed on even seeing the M10. 1st it's only one in sad shape I don't need it, and just about everyone I spoke to says the M7s are the sweet spot for the vintage monitor line of which I have a working pair. Again my x-overs are from ' 78 and are going out very soon to WMD.....
