Can anyone venture a guess as to why my sony's cant see my media server?

I dont know what I changed other than my antivirus but my PS3 and My BDPS5200 no longer see my laptop account that my music is on. The oppo still sees it.

I just finished having the same issue as you, not with a Sony product though..
I use 2 different media boxes for playing movies and these connect to my computer through my network..
I started not being able to connect to my PC anymore, sometimes if I rebooted it would see it, same with the other box I use..
I figured it was a faulty router box..
So I switched to another one same issues, I was stumped.
Anyway I moved my audio gear upstairs now and go into Digital, and my son wanted to use the basement.
Called up my local internet company made appt for them to come and move lines around, the guy came, during his checking of cables told me if I was having connecting issues, I told him yes, he said thought so, your signal is very weak coming up to the house,he ran a temp line and showed me the signal was a lot better now and I have not had any more connecting issues with my boxes, I would have never thought it was an outside problem as my internet and wifi worked all the time for everything but those boxes, lol
He talked me out of moving the lines and to buy a Nighthawk router $299 And get rid of my sons Internet which cost me another $100 a month, so 3 months to pay for router and saving $900 not bad..
    Router is amazing
Anyway your problem could be like mine a weak signal coming to your home..
    Hope this helps

What router do you have? If you have a firewall router, the permissions may have changes. You might have to write a policy and a firewall objective in order to get them to talk.
Also do you have a guest network? Your devices or laptop might be on that and you don't have a bridge between the 2 networks for them to to talk.
FING is your friend my man. Download that app on your phone, learn all the IP addresses that your devices have and see if they are all on the same subnet. Most of the time when 2 network devices can't talk is when they are not both on the same network.
Wireless sucks and I suggest hard wiring everything . At your equipment location run a cat 6 and then install a switch to cover all your network equipment plus some more so if you have 4 devices go with a 8 port switch. Same goes with the computer location, get a hard wire in that location.

I have a Netgear something. Do I have to log on to the router to fix this? I dont think I did initially and it worked fine until a few days ago.

I hard wired that laptop and turned off wifi on it. I still have to go wireless to everything else except the new Yamaha AVR. The wifi adapter for it is nothing but problems. I should have read the reviews before I bought it

Pretty much all receivers doing wi-fi suck. Almost like they threw that option in there without making sure it was solid just for marketing purposes.

How far away is the router from the gear you want to connect ? You can't have the router in the basement dungeon and 2 flights up you expect good wireless. Have you tried re-setting the router ? Unplug it for 5 minutes and plug back in.

Netgear has an array of routers, don't go cheap on a good router especially if you want to do wireless from many sources all over the house.

Can you ping those two devices from your PC? Or turn off your anti-virus then check if those two devices can see your music.

    good sleuthing here.
I was going to ask for an equipment and configuration rundown, but you already covered a lot of the troubleshooting points.

+1 to FING. that's a sweet little tool.

AB - on your devices that can't see, can they get online otherwise? Is there a networking area in the configuration menus that can show you wireless health?

lastly, or firstly, I should say - is your antivirus an internet security suite? if so, it may have its own firewall that you can review/check. a software update shouldn't reset this, but anything's possible. if it's a new software altogether, there's a pretty good chance that the firewall's too restrictive. you can either open ports on your laptop explicitly, or simply reclassify the network as "home" or "private" and it should open the laptop up to all local traffic again. a quick check for this would be to disable all antivirus shields, typically accessible by right-clicking the program's icon in the system tray, down by the clock. then see if your devices can see the laptop again. since the Oppo still sees it though, it's probably something else. still though, weird stuff happens, so worth considering.

When stuff like this happens, it's usually something simple. I once had an issue where a couple of my "last on" wireless devices kept dropping off my network and I couldn't figure it out. then it dawned on me - my router had a restricted license - 10 device limit - and I had been adding a bunch of wireless stuff and it used them all up.

if none of that works, I'd say disjoin all devices from your wifi network, down all your equipment, bring up networking, and rejoin them one at a time, starting with the laptop, and next one of the trouble devices.

Still working on it. Turning off the anti virus did not help. I can't see any gateway info on FING. I am not going to worry too much about it until I get a day off and have the time and patience to deal with this. I can always carry my HD or Thumb drive to the "dungeon" Bedroom if I need to.

You might have an ip address conflict where one device may have a static ip address and another device using dhcp thinks that address is available...

on a PC that is hard wired to the router, open my computer, click network on the left and that will show all your hook up devices. You can also open network and sharing center and get the network map.

The main reason you are having this problem is your new antivirus turned on a firewall for media sharing. Open control panel - system and security - windows firewall - allow a program through firewall. make sure "media center extenders" is checked.

I agree that wireless for media sucks big time. I hard wired my house and the two rooms I could not get to (wife thing) I use power line. AV2 power line works very well. one room I get my full speed of 120Mbs down and another is @ 75Mbs down.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

also one other thin, go in to the menu on your Sony's and rerun the network setup.

I got it working again. I think that the problem was something set my network to "public" and some things would not connect. After changing it to "private" and rerunning the setup I got the Sony in the bedroom streaming from the pc again. I still have yet to try the ps3. I am not at all sure that this was the problem though, I was only able to get it running after the windows 10 upgrade maybe that had something to do with it?
