" insult to the rest of the fourm." and the spelling police!
On subject, I think upgrading the amp first to see what you
got is "sound" advice. -
Yes I agree, upgrade the amp first to something like an Adcom GFA-555 (known to have a little more forward energy than the likes of parasound, B&K, etc.) and then see what you think of those 70s. You may find you're satisfied.
As for the "rule" issue. It comes does to what makes a rule a rule, what gives the rule is obligatory nature. Either widespread social controls (in this case members of the forum) or hierarchical authoritarian controls (the mods and owners of the forum).
1. The owners of the forum don't care what goes on here, as long as we don't use 4 letter words. That has been made clear. So the rule has no obligatory force from authority.
2. As for the community. It has always been a divisive issue. Skip and I were early opponents, as we had both successfully sold many items to folks with few posts. If I'm the seller I am not risking much, its the buyer that risks. And if I want to offer a special deal to polkies, then I just won't sell to anyone who isn't an active member! Now I agree that folks with less than 100 posts shouldn't be able to sell - it is a privilege to sell here - but again, who's going to regulate it? So as a community we are divided, and there really aren't any formal social controls to regulate the rule, unless we go back to #1, and poor ol' Ken steps up his game (and his hours lol...)
Bottom line, it seems to me that unless Polk steps it up and goes back to making a couple senior members mods who can delete these kinds of posts, there simply will not be enough social controls to regulate this activity. But I might be wrong! it'll be an interesting experiment, perhaps someone should conduct a study!Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

Skip, if I recall....you do have your own web site now. Don't you think the more appropriate response would have been to re-direct the potential buyer to your company where you can sell anything to anyone ? Just sayin' pal.
There's more to this than the simple task of "making a sale".HT SYSTEM-

The rules clearly state.....You must have a total post count of 100 (contribute to the other parts of the forum) before you can buy or sell anything in the "For Sale (FS) Classifieds" or "Garage Sale" forums.
As for enforcing those rules, it's always been up to the members. Sure blocking access when we had vBulletin made it easy, but since we're stuck with Vanilla now, it's back to member enforcement.

I understand the concept, but the execution is lacking. How exactly is this enforcement supposed to happen? No member has the ability to stop ANYONE from listing something for sale, or ANYONE from responding to that sale, or removing any of those posts. Back when Mark and Russ were mods, those posts got removed pretty fast, long before very many people saw them. Now, good luck.
I agree with Skip, these are social-conventional rules designed to respond to certain problems in the community. Now our problem is A DEAD FORUM. Keeping newbies out of the FM only perpetuates and exacerbates the problem, as it will piss some folks off and they won't come back. Maybe we didn't want them here in the first place, but at least give them a chance to stir up some activity.
I say we keep the minimum for selling at 50 or 100, but go back to having no restrictions on buying. Again, if the individual seller wants to give a true active Polkie discount, they are free to do that. They just don't sell to someone with less than 100 posts. Self-regulation baby! What all you libertarians are about right???
And I think its crazy that the people that are loudest in favor of the rules are the ones that rarely if even sell anything on here...why do you care???

That's fine Skip, if you feel the need for a change, then start a new thread in the Clubhouse where we can discuss it, but just ignoring the rules as they are for your benefit is not the way to go about it.
I've had and have stuff right now that didn't sell. That could be because of the 100 post rule, but it also could be the simple fact that no one wants it.
For the record, I'm not opposed to dropping the post count down to say 50 as they do at Steve Hoffman. Of course, we could always charge a fee like they do at AK before anyone could buy or sell. I would, of course, collect that money.
I'm not serious about the fee.Political Correctness'.........defined

Legitimate question: Would you rather people go "under the table" and make a deal or be up front, open and transparent?
I ask because it seems to me that Skip could have easily pm'd the OP and offered up his amp. He still would have "broken the rules", but I guess it would have been OK since no one knew about it???Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
It's not against the rules to sell to someone with under 100 posts....elsewhere, just not here.
Some of you guys act like this is the first time the FM has experienced slow movers. Nothing is preventing anyone from taking their items to other sites to sell it.....and if membership is as down as everyone says it is, why would you want to keep your items solely here anyway ?
The whole point of the FM was not to move gear as quickly as you can. It was originally intended for members to give other members deals you normally wouldn't find on those other sites. No member wants your deal ? Your always free to move it somewhere else....Audiogon/US Audiomart/craigslist, etc. We keep the integrity intact because we know the buyers and sellers and that lessons your chance of a bum deal. It was never intended to mimic other FS sites or be the competition to Craigslist.
Changing the rules to accommodate everyones personal situation is an exercise in futility. I can maybe see lowering it to 50, as some have suggested, other than that I think it should remain as is.HT SYSTEM-

That's far from the truth. Every member has the ability, just contact Ken and he will take care of the issue in a timely fashion. I do it all the time and stuff is gone long before many see it.Now our problem is A DEAD FORUM.
It's not dead, but there are less folks these days. That happened when we got the disaster known as Vanilla. If I came to this forum for the first time today and saw this format I seriously doubt I'd stick around. That IS the problem. And I think its crazy that the people that are loudest in favor of the rules are the ones that rarely if even sell anything on here...why do you care???
Not sure who you are referring to. If it's me I have bought and sold plenty here over the years.
