Upgrade from Monitor 70s

Have Monitor 70 II's and a CS2 Center. OWM3s for surrounds. Powered by a Pioneer 1121k AVR. 505 Sub.

Looking to move up. RTI A9 or A7s? I prefer brighter speakers. I know Polk but it wouldn't have to stay Polk. Looking for ideas. Thanks

You like bright and you're powering off an AVR. Klipsch might be perfect.

Detailed. You got it. In dream land I would love some B&Ws.

Klipsch? B&Ws? Both too bright for me. But that's subjective. I think/hear music as "warm". My ears balk when it gets bright and overly analytic.

But for HT that sound is OK. Whatever floats your boat! They're your ears.

Well, an AVR/Audyssey can cover a lot of sins. No Polks with detailed high end which
I'll assume the OP is going for? :* I started my surround sound w/ Klipsch bookies
but sold them right away as they were not a good match for me.

    What he said ^^^

Some just like that ear bleed sound, don't know why, but they do. To each his own though, but I would think if the OP got his ears on some different speakers he may change his thinking and preferences.

I for one would put an amp on them. I did and the 70's sound great. Adding an amp slowed or maybe just detoured my upgraditis

I like that afterburnt. I do get upgraditis! I could be wrong as far as bright/warm go as I am learning what I like. Lets say I enjoy detail more then anything. A bit of a purest.

So on the high end I have listened to B&W CM8s and Martin Logan speakers. Is there a more affordable brand of speaker that have a similar sound/feel?

jp the truth is I went through 4 amps and each one improved the performance of the 70's, of course it was an expensive route to take. Let me save you some money and some trouble. Get a Parasound amp that puts out about 200 watts or so and you will be surprised at what a good speaker that lowly 70 really is.

electromotion esl? $750 dollars? Normally about 1200 but Verizon smart rewards give a heck of a discount. That's big discount from what looks like a solid speaker set. Thoughts?

I will defer to the experts here for suggestions. I liked the 2250v2 so much that I sprung for an A31. I was pleased with the Emotivas that I tried but things really got good when I went to the Parasounds. All of my amps are still in use and I dont regret any of my purchases except I got pretty broke in the process but it was worth it. I still want to upgrade my speakers but the 70's will always have a home with me.

I upgraded a CS20 to a CsiA6 and it was quite an improvement for movies. I still think about getting some RTI's L/R to match it for my bedroom system. I have been told that they will be very bright with the Emo amp but the bedroom is pretty plush with carpet drapes etc. that I think the room would tame any excessive brightness.

Just to be clear my next move is to upgrade my F/C/L in the main system but I am not in a huge hurry.

Good call man. You've made a lot of upgrades recently. I think you should figure out whether or not you're going to just go 2 channel or not first.

Dskip I may very well go 2 channel but I have a 3 bedroom house to all to myself so maybe a dedicated 2 channel is in the future and I don't have anything in the kitchen yet...

Amps cost alot! I would consider but I think I may have to go with a new AVR soon. Once in awhile my AVR makes a popping sounds and I have to shut everything off and turn back on then it usually goes to the normal sounds of the source. 1121k Pioneer. Nice unit but not sure what the deal is, Might be the cable box.

As others have mentioned, amps make a huge difference.

I have two identical sets of Focal 806v's in my house. One in my 2ch being powered by an HCA 1500A. Another in my HT being powered by my AVR.

The 2ch Focal's are in a whole different class. Much tighter, articulate bass response. A tactile and defined midrange. Highs that stretch much higher without ever being fatiguing.

Granted the other associated equipment is going to come into play. But make no mistake, that amp has zero issue putting a choke hold on my Focal's and wringing out some beautiful sound...

Are you going to buy it? Forum has had their chance.

Then remove it and list elsewhere, you know the rules. They apply to everyone. Unless I missed the part in the rules that say if your item doesn't sell in x amount of time, the 100 post rule no longer exists.

Tony, with all due respect this what philosophers and psychologists call a "conventional rule," which means (among other things) that it needs an authority to enforce it and it won't harm anyone to break it. If it were a moral rule, that would be a different story. But no one is enforcing it (polk doesn't give a rats arse about this forum clearly) and its not gonna hurt anyone, so who cares??? And FYI, I generally am a rule follower...

Point taken, but really it's also up to us, as members, to enforce the rules too. You can't sit there and complain about the forum sinking into the gutter then do nothing, or say nothing, about it.

Rules have to apply across the board. Another example is guns/politics/religion. I'm certainly a frequent rule breaker there. However, other members usually chime in and tell me to knock it off and I usually comply....usually. lol

If nobody wants the rule to apply, the authority around here is Ken, ask him to remove it then. I would imagine many members would push back on that though. Just sayin' is all. As members, it's also our responsibility to keep the joint on the up and up.

100 seems like a lot... why so many, feel like I've participated, only at 50. Not that I have anything to sell or an urge to buy right now.

    I have to agree.

Skip, you do know better. If you want to sell it to someone without the required post count, do it via PM. Saying you don't care is an insult to the rest of the fourm.
