Wear and tear on components

Should I plug my HDD directly into my AVR instead of my Oppo? The AVR interface leaves a lot to be desired so I have been using the Oppo for playback. Should I just use the USB on the AVR in order to save wear and tear on the Oppo? BTW this is part of the reason for having 4 BDP's hooked up. One of them is a super cheap unit that I leave on to play Pandora in the background for hours on end. For that matter should I be streaming through the smart TV for netflix etc. and just use the Oppo for disc playback?

I hate to burn something out but that is always a good excuse to upgrade!

Are you using analog outs on the Oppo or digital out?

My Oppo has been left on for days at a time and it runs perfectly (burning in new speakers or preamp). My 103 is over 2 years old.

If something does wear out, Oppo is a rare company that can and will repair for a reasonable fee. The only thing you really have to worry about wearing out will be the disc transport and if you're playing from a HDD or streaming, it's not being used at all.

There should be no difference between playing from the AVR or playing from the Oppo then. You might try using the analog outs on the Oppo and see if that sounds better though.

"Never Clear" I wasnt asking for quality sake I probly wont here the diff. the question was about the longevity of the components.

All depends. If your the type that turns it on and off many times a day, that's probably more likely to shorten it's life cycle than just leaving it on. I'd just use the OPPO if that's the best player out of the 4.

Unless you are running a $3,ooo+ AVR, I can just about guarantee you that the ESS Sabre D/A converter in the Oppo will sound markedly better than letting your AVR decode for you. Plug your hard drive into the Oppo, and use the analog out to your AVR...

Oh, and the longevity is not an issue either way....

Man, stop all that smack and use your gear dude. Don't worry about wearing things out. By the time you even scratch wearing it out, you'll want a new one anyway, someone else will buy it and they will use it for years without wearing it out, then they will sell it and then someone else will use it for years and it will still be working.
I once thought like you as I use to run audio to my TV so I didn't "WEAR OUT" my system. All those years wasted not using my system. When I sold those components back in the day , the guy who purchased them basically got like brand new stuff because I didn't want to "WEAR THEM OUT".
    Stop all that!!!

LOL! Listen to Dan he speaks the truth! I purchased my Rotel preamp and amp & CD player back in 1990 when I purchased my Rotel 8T-A's which are 25 yrs old and happy as can be. They pretty much got daily use for 15 years straight and on weekends all day long. I then passed them on to my brother and he got another 3 years out of them, when they eventually gave up the ghost.

I then proceeded to give him my Parasound 1500A to run his LSI 7s. That's at least 10 years old and still going strong.

You guys obsess and worry too much over EVERYTHING! Sit down, shaddup and just enjoy the tunes would ya! You will be happier and so will your gear! ;)

I am pretty sure the 103D does not have a fancy DAC, that would be the 105. This yamaha has 2 sabre DACS.

Wear and tear? Hell my HK 3490 basically runs 24/7 to keep a bird entertained with some music. It shows zero sign of being affected badly.

Same. My Yamaha is on nearly all day everyday.
