First impressions Lsi M705

Well 2nd impressions as I did have them set up at the shop..

So I got them home hooked up to the main system running pure direct. Now I can see why these are Polk's flagship speaker series.

So seeing hows I don't have A & B switching to try and hear the difference between the 705 and the Rti a9. I figured the best way was to listen to some music on the 9's leave the settings the same and hear what the 705's can do with those settings.

The first thing was the bass, now the 9's are no slough but but the 705's seems effortless with bass response.

Next was the pure clean reproduction of music everything seems to sound so much more clean like it should like the speakers are not even there.

Sound stage is a lot bigger and finding the sweet spot was easy;currently I haven't done much in regards to placement, just plunked them down where the 9's were I'm sure as I play around and fine tune the placement it will only improve.

listening to Jimmy Cliff many rivers to cross pretty sweet..

Cheers
Roger

Congrats on the score BTW! I plan on purchasing LSIm's in about a year or as soon as I finish my degree.

So I've had these for just about three weeks and I'm still in love with them. They are a pleasure to listen too as well look at(I have a swiffer on hand in case a speck of dust dares to land on them. The wife thinks I'm mad).

As for playback they are very good even great the only instrument they seem to struggle with a bit is the cello, for some reason on a long note it sounds like they just can't hold it together and I notice the faintest bit of distortion. Or it could be that that's a thing that a cello does as I don't listen to a lot of cello work.
The song in question is Bang Bang played by the 2 cello's a beautiful song sang by Sky Ferreira (written by Sonny Bono) and on some of the deeper notes I hear what I think is distortion or maybe I'm mad...

Hmmm pretty sure it a pretty solid system good cable, source ect. And it's only one note that's in question.
I'm not even sure what other song i could play that would reproduce that note.

During some Movie scenes I swear I've heard distortion (from the 5 1/4 driver) Not even playing too loud. I have some pretty dam good gear upstream. Friends haven't noticed, girl friend doesn't notice, I've accepted that it just sounds that way at that particular moment.

So it's the song or instrument to be exact not the speaker. I played it upstairs on the 7's same thing. So that's a relieve.

Are you sure it isn't something else in the chain?

So I checked every thing in the chain to make sure nothing was loose.

The chain is Lsim 705, Doug's Speaker cable 9 awg bi-wired, Parasound 1500A, Mitt IC ,Yamaha RX A2040, Mitt IC and a Cambridge Audio 650C.

But anyway I listen to the same song again when I was home for lunch and there it was. This evening I'm going to try and find some songs with the big bass string instruments.

I know it not a big deal and I'm probably putting too much thought and effort into it but it's nagging at me... it would be nice to confirm if it's the song or the speakers.

I was too quick to judge last night, I think I really wanted to hear it (the distortion) because I didn't want anything to be wrong with the new speakers.

But listening carefully today at lunch to the Rti A7's I knew it wasn't distortion, when I went downstairs and played it on the 705 there's definitely something off with that note, maybe distortion is not the best description it it more like the note is not being played true but the strange thing is it just that note that draws my attention.

Now to be fair upstairs I played the song via spotify from the PS3,
and downstairs from CA 650C disk player that could be the reason?

I'm probably being too an@l as everything else I play sounds fantastic.

Hey Roger, that's a pretty sweet piece. I think I've heard that before on a soundtrack.
At what time in the track are you hearing the troubling part? Curious to give it a listen myself.

Ya I think you may be right Ken, my experiment last night wasn't ideal because of the difference sources, And as Mikey had pointed out the 705 are a more accurate speaker. So with being said I'm going to pour up a drink and listen to some tunes...

I'm going to try out the 705's this weekend in the 2 channel system. Take them off the sunfire and feed them the b&k mono blocks. I would like to try out your tracks? But my 2 channel system uses a benchmark dac1 pre, no tone or bass controls, you get what you get. Somewhere to down load a nice copy?

You have to listen to same source to compare. Spotify bitrate is 160/320 afaik vs CD should be 700+. Given the bass & treble comments it is likely the compressed version is slicing parts of your music.
