Computer gurus...can you daisy chain Seagate 1Tb external drives?

Was wondering if you can daisy chain these and if so how difficult is it to do as I am not very adept at all things computer wise :)

What would you like to do with these drives? How many total?

You can connect multiple drives to a laptop or computer no biggie. Each drive will connect to its own USB port and will be shown on your computer as its own drive with its own dedicated letter.

You can share each drive with other computers as well no biggie.

    What's your purpose for these?

Daisy chain? As in setting up a RAID array, effectively increasing the size of the drives to a sum total of their storage capacity?

What are you connecting the drive to, a Laptop or Desktop/Workstation/HTPC? What connections are available on the drive? Will this be permanent, or will the drive(s) be connected to other Laptops/Desktops?

those USB hubs can be helpful, but I've never found one that worked flawlessly. granted, I've not used any like the one Kurt linked. that one looks pretty robust.

I think you might be better served by getting two new larger externals and using one to backup to the other. I've been seeing disks failing at an alarming rate over the past several years.

or depending on your budget and installation type (as WMG asks, notebook vs more permanent desktop), consider forgoing the externals altogether and buy a quality RAID device/enclosure that connects to a computer by USB 3 or E-SATA. you can get these readymade, or build your own, adding your own hard drives. cheapest, simplest route would be externals, but you'll be more limited on capacity and you'll want at least two of whatever you get for backup.
