RTA 8TL's?

Ok so I'm new to all this and I just picked up a pair of RTA 8TL's for $80. It's got a SL 2500 tweeter and 2 6.5" mids. I replaced the grill cloth and grill pegs, everything else is in good condition besides a couple of small dings in the veneer. Knowing there's much higher levels of experience on here I come to you with the question; would it be easier to part it out or sell it as a whole? I'm not sure how sought after any of this? I'd attach pics but my cellular device won't let me..

Did you buy them to flip them? They are actually nice sounding, versatile speakers. If you are going to sell, would probably get m993rd parting out.

Be a crying shame to see them get parted out. They are a great speaker. Someone could veneer them & enjoy them for years to come. The sl2500 is a good tweeter & could be upgraded to the 198's & if powered correctly that is one fine speaker. Put some quality power to them & really hear what they can do..

Seems to me, by reading your post, that you aren't keeping them. The question you posed was to either part them out or sell them. Yes, you "could" get more parting them out to the right buyer. MW 6516's were the drivers (could be wrong) and I believe the 8tl's were the only speaker Polk produced with this specific driver (could be wrong again however).
So..., if you aren't keeping them pick your poison. You paid $80, not much for the speaker they are. I'd keep them if I were you, but, I'm not...
BTW, welcome to Club Polk.Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me -
I do agree they have a good sound and they do have the 6516's. I was hoping to sell these save a little and get a hold of some monitor 10's. I like them they fit well where I have them but a little more oomph in the bass would be nice. I think I'll hold on to them for the time being. Idk lots of options with all this still trying to get my bearings. One of my issues that I know I have is that I have a receiver with nothing more than treble and bass for an equalizer...
And thanks I have a feeling toolfan66 has got me hooked into a new hobby. Lol -
Are you in Colorado as well? That's four of us here if so.
Sell them whole, it would be a shame to part them out.
If you're going to upgrade you should wait for a pair of SDA's, preferably a pair without the dimensional tweeter, or a pair of RTA-12B or C's.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

If you like the narrow face, but want more bass extension, then the 11T/TL or 15TL would be a better choice. Your 8Ts are ported, have fewer drivers, and don't dig as deep or have the same quality bass as the PR equipped models.
Compared to the Monitor 10s, the 11s or 15s will provide a more precise image.Home Theater/2 Channel:

If you feel like they are lacking bass, that might be partly the receiver's fault. I agree that the RTA 11T/L would be my Goldilocks speaker esp. where the bass is concerned in the RTA series, but I have the 8TLs too, and hooked to a beefy amp I thought, "wow, that's a lot of bass from a smaller ported speaker." -
I agree an amp will make them sound better, as a matter of fact Brian here brought these to my house, and I'm sure Brian will agree but the 8tl's don't hold a candle to the monitor 10's.
Do they sound bad? No, but I would say they sound bloated in the bass department compared to the 10's...
And some might hate me saying this as I have owned the 11t's and 15's and I like the 7's and 10's much better... -
When it comes to Monitors the 10's to my ears are hard to beat when it comes to bass. 7&10's are very nice speakers...
-
A lot of it depends on what you listen to. 8Ts wont thump, but they are killer for jazz and less bass heavy music.
-
Yea I have to say I'm much much happier with my monitor 10s. My 8ts and the bass that it produced isn't as prevalent and rounded as what the 10s have.

Hi guys. I have pair of 8tl. One of the sl2500 tweeters is blown. I checked to see if it was the tweeter or crossover by switching the good one over and it worked fine so I have confirmed it is the tweeter. How do I get a new sl2500?

eBay is about the only place you'll find an SL2500. You'd be better off with two new RDO-198-1 Tweeters directly from PolkHome Theater/2 Channel:
