SDA 2 A B ?

OK, for you old timers this may be nothing more than a laughing matter however I am confused (to say the least)....I have read and looked at schematics till I am blue in the face and I cannot seem to nail down what I have here and therefore which way to go. My speakers have cloth (grill type) all the way around the sides and front. They have only one tweeter each (SL 2000). I have two blades on the I.C. a small one and a large one..No pins..My crossovers do not have any 130 uF Caps. My crossovers do not have two 20uF caps. My crossovers have a 40uF Cap and a 20uF cap as well as the (best I can tell) a 720 pF cap. I think there is a 12uF in there as well. My goal for now is to replace the electrolytics, install the Mills 0.5 resistor MOD, Dynamat the mid woofers and the passive and make sure they sound OK before going any farther. I am pretty sure I am going to keep them so more later. They were found in rough condition without an I.C. so I made a temporary one. They had blown tweeters as well. I replaced them with some SL 2000 tweeters I had in the shop. Next problem is to find out what 6.5 speaker gos where as I had no idea that they would or could be any different than any other Polk 6.5 and I put one or two in that I had here from another set of Polk speakers (yes, some of the midwoofers were damaged too) and now I really do not know what ones I put where !..OK, when you guys are done laughing at me please help ! Thanks, with best regards.

Early blade/blade 2B's. The stereo driver is MW6503 and the SDA driver is MW6511.
BTW, what you thought was a 720pF is a 750pF. When upgrading to film/foil caps, eliminate that bypass cap.
You can also do the TL mod to those speakers, which I recommend highly.Political Correctness'.........defined

Welcome to CP. We don't laugh at new members who don't know what vintage model Polk they have, we laugh at older members who forgot.
The 6511s are the outer dimensional woofers, and the 6503s are the inner stereo woofers.
The Stereo harness will be black/white, and the dimensional will be blue/white or blue/green. The speakers are marked left and right, make sure they're in the correct position also.Home Theater/2 Channel:

2B . Awesome that's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure so thanks ! As far as the TL MOD, I will look around for that one I have seen it so I will surly find it again. Now to the drivers..Am I missing something ?? I do not recall seeing any different numbers on them. I will look again and thank you for not laughing !!

if they have two MW6510's someone may have replaced them with some from SDA2a as both looked the same to the naked eye. But it does sound like 2B. Most SDA's have different drivers for Stereo and dimensional side but not all.

The "TL" Mod is on the SDA CRS+ 1990 SL3000 Mod Schematic. It's the same crossover.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Sometimes the labels fall off the back of the speakers (it has happen to me). If you remove the passive, you may find them on the bottom of the cabinet.Speakers: Polk SDA-SRS xovers rebuilt by David, RDO194's, Dynamat, BH5, glued magnets, new cloth, custom aluminum terminal plates with Cardas posts and Speakon interconnect

Wow, I really really appreciate all the help here. I am now getting things together in my head. I had two 6510s in one Cab and one 6510 in the wrong place in the other Cab. switched and in the wrong place with a 6511. I could not understand why they did not sound as good as when I started ! Problem now is that I do not have a good 6511 for the R. speaker. So, can a replacement be bought from Polk for a 6511? I guess I will see. You guys have really helped me a lot. I just wanted to say thank you ! Oh, one other thing as Stogie stated above the paper labels had fallen off a few of the speakers. I am pretty certain I re attached them to the correct speakers with "elmers" glue though. I can easily spot the ones that I used as substitute drivers because they had been in storage a very long time( I cant seem to throw anything away) and had a bit of mold on the dust covers. So I guess my question would be this..Is there any way to tell a 6511 from a 6510/6503 without the using labels ? DCR with a meter or visually ?

God, thanks F1nut, this one is for you ! "And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high."
Quote Ayrton Senna. I will use your DCR readings above, Very helpful building my database as well as these speakers . I am not gonna lie, I love these speakers. I think my Norman 10s just came out of rotation forever. As of now I do not have another 6511 and will look for one. However, I changed things around on the L speaker and went with what I had on the Right. A good 6510. The magic is back. Little Feat never sounded better ! -
I like you. Stick around and enjoy your 2B's. You'll really enjoy them after TL mod.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

I am from Alabama before you make up your mind LOL ! You guys the greatest. If I do any more MODS (and I will for 100% sure) I wont know whats going on !! I think these speakers are the best I have ever owned as they are now and they are kind of pieced together !! I have heard of SDA speakers forever and always wanted to hear a set. First time I ever did was after this 80.00 buy. Thank the maker for C.L. and being the first one to see the AD... -
