That's very nice Sid, now we’re getting somewhere. Of course you would not auction the blown ones, question was, where did the “great” ones come from? Hopefully not the donated pair.

Too bad you didn't you offer the toasted ones to the community instead of trashing them. Ask your dad to stop throwing them away…..I’ll take them.

If you really want to help the community, ask him to offer them for sale here at a fair price, or donate them to other members?

Hey, I have one of the Polk replacement SL3000’s, two weeks old, never used. Ask if he wants to trade it for two of the slightly toasted old ones? Sounds like the old ones are dropping like flies anyway.

    CDS,

If it were me, they would hit Club Polk first. At a reasonable price, I can't donate stuff because I have zero money to start with. My Dad wants top dollar for his stuff but he wants a deal when he buys. I can't change what he does. I told him the price range they go for, and he took it and put it on EBay. If they don't sell, I'll talk to him about putting them on here if he will.

The blown ones, I'll see if he really threw them away or stored them somewhere. Not sure.

PS: If he does put them on here, I can NOT promise any price. Sorry.

    Thank you for being understanding.

I will try to buy some SL3000TL (which I really want) SDA. I will sell the tweeters on here for 30 each. Sounds fair enough to me.

how many tweeters is your dad replacing? and why so many? they didn't all blow at the same time did they? and how do you blow tweeters anyways?

is he replacing them all.. so they ALL sound the same.. all new as opposed to half new, and half old?

    Sid,
    I’m located North of Raleigh.

Max, I don’t think they were plugged into a regular wall outlet, more likely the dryer outlet.

BTW, I am the one who posted the info on repairing my own SL3000’s. Hearing how many others have had them fail, I wonder if the causes are similar to my findings. We may be seeing a design weakness due to material aging. Anyone know if the SL2000 fails as often? Being an older design, there should be more fallout history, but the design may inherently have a lower failure rate.

I would be willing to help other members with dead 3000’s to see if they can be repaired. Obviously the ones that stopped working without smoke and flames are better candidates. Contact me via email directly if you would like to have a 3000 evaluated.
I wouldn’t want to “advertise” this service, as I am very busy right now and would not want to take too long for the evaluation.

Mine was working fine previously, I didn't use it for close to a year and when I re-connected one tweeter was not playing.

The Soundcraftsman is plugged into its own outlet on the wall in the den.

There are 7 working SL3000TL tweeters. We have 2 polk replacements in the main tweeter slots. We are replacing all the SL3000TL tweets for new ones.

CDS - My Dad dosnt have the blown tweeters anymore. I am sure...

Your Dad got two SL3000's for FREE from this forum, I would think at the very least he should return them if he is not going to use it.

Agreed, seems to me like a situation where someone is using the generosity of others to line his pockets.

At first reading I agreed BUT:

Since his dad is selling them solely to replace what he currently has I think it is ok. My reasoning is that if I gave you a used SL3000 for free that I wanted you to have I really wouldn't mind if you sold it for $50 and bought a new replacement one for $50 or more. That is quite different than getting it free and selling for a profit. (Profit=using the cash for something else)

The person who gave it to him would have to be the one to decide if that is ok or not though.

I actually agree with you on one thing...He should atleast give one back to the forum for free.

But as Max said, Polk replacement is where the money will go, can't give stuff away if you need money to replace it. But if they dont sell, he will keep the SL3000..so yeah lol

The giving back to the forum, and showing true colors window has long since closed. It would be a wasted effort to give it away free now, the bed has been made, get comfortable.

If he really was interested in the forum, he would participate.

It's true that blaming Sid for his father's perceived lack of tact is unfair.

It is also true that Sid shouldn't continue to turn up his Yamaha sixty watt receiver to it's highest setting with the SDA 1.2's, absolutely frying numerous tweeters in the process, and then attempt to bottom out the SVS Ultra the minute it arrives at his house.

    Let's try to move on.

    Two Channel Setup:

    Speakers: Wharfedale Opus 2-3
    Integrated Amp: Krell S-300i
    DAC: Arcam irDac

    3.2 Home Theater Setup:

    Fronts: Klipsch RP-160M
    Center: Klipsch RP-160M
    Subwoofer: SVS PB12NSD (X 2)
    AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A2030
    Blu Ray: Sony BDP-S790

L&C was joking. My Dad purchased a SVS subwoofer.

My Dad has bottumed it out plenty of times though. (already).

I have never pushed the SRS with a Yamaha amp. When they first arrived, I plugged them up to the yammy for my Dad, we turned it on to see how it went, etc. Then we wired in the SC. Dad turned it up, blew the tweeters while watching the LED's blinking pretty fast and not occasionally. It is actually kinda funny now that I think about it.

I agree with L&C, Lets move on. Please

Time for the B4+ ;) (If he got that, you could take the Ultra, two birds and all that...)

    That'd rock!

PC Ultra is a lil to much for me. I'd send it back to SVS and get 2 PCI 22-31 for both of my rooms (Mom's and Dad's house).

Why not get an AC/DC adapter for your future car and drive the thing back and forth. I'll bet the ultra would dig down to single digits in a car...
