Polk Monitor 10a with peerless tweets

One of the side by side 6.5 mids are frozen in each of my speakers! Are these fixable or do I need to replace them? I want to stay with originals or does polk have replacements? Anyone know what the original numbers are? Thanxs

Pull the midwoofer out and there will be a model number on the back of it. Somebody probably knows what it is off the top of their head but you can still check. Sometimes people replace them with incorrect ones too so it wouldn't be a bad idea to check them all. Depending on which one it is, Polk makes replacements. Just give them a call. 1-800-377-7655

    Welcome to Club Polk, Cylontymany!

Pull the frozen drivers and they will have a model number on the back end of the magnet. It'll be MW65xx. Polk does make new replacements for some models that you can get a discount on for being a Polk Forum member. They are a little different than the originals in appearance, but are supposed to be the electrical/sonic equivalent. You can also check eBay for some original replacements. However, these might show up at your door with possibly the same issue yours now have - frozen with shifted magnets. This happens when the speaker cabinet, or driver itself, takes a jolt (eg. like happens when shipped cross country by UPS). Its likelihood of happening can be greatly reduced by putting a ring of epoxy or Loctite Powergrab around the magnets. If you go the eBay route, you may even be lucky enough to find a seller that has already secured the magnets.

While you are pulling drivers from your cabinets, it would be a good idea to secure the magnets on the two drivers that are not yet frozen too.

    Good luck.

As mentioned, pull the drivers, and see if there's a model # on the back plate. Early Monitors may not have anything written on them. In that case they're most likely MW6500s or MW6501s. Check the DCR of the voice coil. MW6500s will be around 6.5 ohms, and MW6501s around 7.5-7.75 ohms.
I've also worked on Monitors that came with MW66XXs, and MW6503s.
