Who doesn't love a little drywall dust??
Looks good. I'll be picking up some MR board in the coming week to redo the bathroom. Last room in the house!
On a side note, for a $clam, anyone can buy a sheetrock hoist which is gods gift to the DIY'er. I'd sleep with mine but the wife says the metal gets too cold.

Wow, great work...keep it up! Did you ever work in construction? or are you a DIY'er?

I ask because I'm a DIY'er and have been pondering if I could do it. Looking at a nice home w/ unfinished basement that's already framed.

    Walt.

I'm fairly certain you could hang drywall no problem... taping and mudding though you may want to sub out lol........

I've already told my wife next house will have a UNFINISHED basement as a requirement... so I can soundproof/deaden/configure the room layouts for proper audio playback. But thats me being the OCD me I am...

You'll get a better sense of accomplishment by doing it yourself. Mudding is an art and is definitely not for everyone. I hate it, but i'll do it at my house because i want the feeling of it being all me!

WLDock, everyone starts somewhere meaning, try it....what's the worst that can happen? Sheets are a couple bucks a piece and if you screw up, oh well, try again. DIY'ing electronics is one thing, when you can DIY around the house, wives take notice ;)

Thanks for the response from all you cool dudes...but you guys missed the DIY part. I've busted out a wall before to repair a leaking pipe and repaired the wall with drywall and mud. Since childhood I've fixed every part and everything in a home. STILL, HAVING SAID ALL THAT.... I wonder if I could finish a room and have things line up, look good, and last. I've been looking at a lot of homes over the last two years and I see so much bad and cheap work on some of these newer homes. Seen loose drywall tape and cracks in so many homes.

Well, I think I can do it but would for sure have a builder come in to look over things and guide me.

Anyway, my bigger problem right now is I found a great house that we bid on, got a counter offer, accepted the offer and got the inspection. We knew it was a smoker's home and the smell was not that bad during the first showing. However, during the inspection with the heat blowing for and hour or so...the smoke smell was horrendous...especially in the Master suite. The seller is not willing to do anything or refund the $1K EM deposit.... not sure if I should back out take the loss...or go full steam at getting the smoke out. The Mrs. really loves the house....its the nices one we have seen in the nices area in our price range(Well the top end of the range). But all appliances are included, upstairs level washer and dryer, and I got them to throw in the riding mower...its an estate home.

Sorry...this should have been another thread...under stress and venting. The pursuit of home ownership = STRESS!

Go for the house, but ask that the seller have the ducts cleaned...

If something comes up in your inspection and you want out of the deal the seller MUST return your earnest money (provided you are still within your inspection contingency timeline).

To remove the smoke smell, wipe the walls with TSP, let dry and paint over (kilz or Zinsser). Same for the ceiling. If it has popcorn, mist with water and putty knife it all off (nobody wants popcorn anymore anyhow), repaint. For floors, if carpet, rip'm out. You'll never remove the smell i don't care how many time you clean it. That is how you remove the smell!

John's advice is spot on with the duct cleaning if applicable.

Sure, there will be a bit of work once you move into the "newer" house but if the Mrs. loves it, make her happy. Take a week before leaving your current residence to get some of the work done. Always remember, beer and pizza goes a long way...call friends/family to help make it go quicker.

I know you are older and have heard this stuff 1000x over but it can all be done. (Positive reinforcement!)
