I've watched a few movies through the p5 in two channel balanced xlr cables and am blown away at how good it sounds. DTS 5.1 master audio used via PCM something rather, sounds wonderful. Watched Inception and Stargate. Both have been blu rays..... Why did I wait so long!!!

Listened to a few CDs through the headphone section on this pup and am absolutely having my head BLOWN OFF!

Listened to Dark Side of the Moon, Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis by sir Adrian Boult (my all time favorite recording of anything in the world), and a few pieces from Bach organ blaster from the telarc label and just couldn't believe what I heard. The first thing was that clipping and distortion were a big problem with my receiver. The hp section on the p5 had no issue with that. I would always notice on the onkyo is that it would sound great until there would either be a crescendo and increase in dynamics I would lose substance and depth in the sound. I noticed this especially in the chorus line of "brain damage", it sounded like the music exploded into a huge sound stage instead of a closed closet, I'm sure this was the original idea. The entire time I listed I was thinking "is this what music is supposed to sound like?" Is always used "time" as a reference and could a huge difference after "you missed the starting gun" begins the guitar solo, it actually sounded like a guitar :) Just incredible. Oh, I think I should mention that this was a cd, sounded pretty close to how the original 1973 vinyl my dad owns!!! Though that album doesn't sound as bright and has quieter less noisy backgrounds, the way this cd sounded was close to the vinyl.

On the Thomas Tallis Fantasia, I could tell a huge improvement, where I would find myself actually attempting to hear actual music I was relaxing so much from enjoying it I almost fell asleep it was so good. Again the dynamics were so easy to listen to, there was no clipping so I didn't feel the need to crank up the volume to feel satisfied. The solo viola section was beautiful, everything seems so spaced out instead of jumbled together.

The Bach organ pieces I listened to were "the Great" Prelude in C Minor. What's so great about this piece? The big Great c minor chord that opens the piece, with Michael Murray basically lying down on the lowest note of the organ, again, clear as a bell dynamics and absolutely no substance dying out, especially on the walking bass line on the pedals, you can hear as the note changes the sound of the pedals pumping.

The Marantz has now decided to start being re-re.

the other night put in Mad Money blu-ray, works fine, stop the movie, took movie out turn player off. turn the player on, put movie in, it says "No disc" and opens by itself. push the eject button and it says "close", it closes then opens. Now when I put a movie and I push open it won't even open. if you help it it will open and close. somethings up.... i don't know why I didn't get a Sony ES:( I'm freakin ticked off and I can't return it, it's been past 30 days. it's got a one yaer warranty but do I even want to bother with that? I saw where a guy sent one to marantz and the "tech" turned it on in the morning then turned it off at night and said "no fault found"..... that's BS.

what happened? did it get a remote virus or is marantz as bad as Denon?

Are you using the buttons on the remote, or the ones on the player itself ? Best to distinguish so you know if the player has an issue.

    Buttons on the player.

I figured that if I push eject to put a movie in I can help it open and it'll open. When I close it I have to give it a small push and it stays closed and works fine. It's like it's not fully closing by itself. Weird.

This issue with the player has ceased thank goodness.

I know this thread is a long time running, but I got a wild idea last night of either getting that parasound 7100 processor, or even a c3, problem with a c3 is that there aren't any in black to match other components.... see where this is going?

I think I read a c3 does decode uncompressed audio because with either unit is lack of hdmi audio, but they're cheaper than the marantzs.

I was also pondering if halo came out an hdmi updated version of either the c2 or p7, but considering the p7 costing $2500 without any digital inputs a c2 or what have you would cost 4 grand or more no sweat.... but why not? Marantz latest pre/pro is over 4,000. Am I thinking too much lol

The reason I mention a c2 is bc it has a balanced preout section if I ever decide on a new amp, then again I could use another car rather than a $5,000 amp... ya know priorities n' all

The 7100 has everything I'd need, my ud 7007 has digital coaxial for the audio signal. I think I just want something different like one of the parasounds.
