I there a reason marantz receivers are so light? Even the 7009 only weighs 30 pounds, what's up?

wow dude you make slow decisions ;) I came into this thread expecting a review.

All the receivers are light these days unless you go really high end...more plastic, smaller amps, etc. I think your best bet is to find the cheapest receiver that does what you need and has preouts. Then just use your parasound to power the mains. But that's just me...

I actually really like my little Marantz. It has absolutely NOTHING extra. Has preouts for the mains, actually has decent sound quality on its own paired with efficient speakers. And I love how small it is. YMMV...

I picked up a used A1010 and couldn't be more pleased. I can't comment on the Yamaha sound alone as I'm using my Rotel to power the speakers.
  • I use the same Yamaha and its great. Currently using the AVR to power the Center and Surrounds. The clarity and realism superb. Even using the Emotiva amps on the mains the transition of sound around the room is absolutely seamless. +1 on the Aventage.

I got free shipping on my Marantz and got it today, two days! at this moment I am watching Despicable me 2 on blu ray and I'm amazed at how sharp the picture is. note that the DVD's picture is fairly dull and fuzzy for some reason, I may try the dvd on the marantz just to see if it wasn't the Denon but most animated movies look really good on the denon. the first Despicable was the same way though.

We were about to watch another movie my son put in on the denon for all of 10 seconds so i took it out hooked up the marantz and stuck the same movie in and was surprised to see how much sharper the regular dvd was than the Denon, even set at 1080i! super sweet! Can't wait to get a bigger TV.

This bad thing is heavy too for the size, not some cheap piece of junk. I guess that's what come with a $1200 player though huh. I notice that about my marantz st7001, it's a lot heavier than the parasound tdq 1600 but smaller.

I can't wait to compare the audio in the two players! I'll do that once I get my p5. that will decide whether or not I keep the Denon.... of course I already told my wife I'd sell it but ya know....:)

so I'm going with a Yamaha Aventage.... What I've noticed is that these babies run BIG and HEAVY. all the ones I'm considering are over 30+ lbs. and 17" or more deep. some deeper than they are wide. that seems heavy fat build quality. I've also noticed they run pretty expensive, even some bids starting at over $400! crazy but seems worth it.

Are you running the P5 and HCA-1500A on Monitor 10's? Like Jesse says, that's like putting a V8 in a Pinto. :p I think you're ready for SDA's, LSiM's, or another brand if you prefer.

So how does it all sound?

Lol they sound much better with the p5. I wish I could get some more speakers and I've thought about getting some, only after I've sold off my jbl's and monitor 10's. I inherit a pair of rta12c though so kinda waiting on that or if dad would trade.... I ask him every time I see him lol he never uses them.
