The difference with the grills off was not subtle at all. It is almost like putting a little bit of cotton in your ear.

The grills on the 705 are much better for transparency with a slight difference on vs off but, I still prefer them off.

Btw a joule electra lap 150a preamp made the bass come out a bit more on the 705.

Thanks hochpt21, I am still trying to miss my 707's but they are still here lol. They are my project child. Man I got spoiled with the Ushers but the 707's are a dream with HT but I just don't do much of that these days. BTW I love your TT isolation, mine works really well to but I think it needs some black spray paint.

Thought I'd miss those 705's. Sadly I don't, they were purrdy though.

You're set up looks nice and tidey, you have 30 fingers to worry about, and I have to worry about 10 (the girl friend), she is as clumsy as 3 children lol. Love that girl though.

Don't mistake high end extension for detail. The tweeter is the biggest downfall of that series IMO. It may not be the tweeters fault, but the highs are just not quite there.

They are good speakers though and deserving of a stop at the abode.

As @erniejade can attest to, the sound difference with the grilles off is incredible. That's how I would prefer to listen, but the wife doesn't like and I've got thirty fingers under 6 yrs old to keep out :)

Part of my wonders if the grill fabric getting swapped out for say the stuff used on Maggies might not improve/fix that....
