Those little guys are as crude as crude can get. Also, your NHSM (New Hampshire Stabilization Method) is ridiculous!! The only thing right about your picture is what's in the background on top of the sub. :D

With all that said, i WILL find time to hear those. I promise.
Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!

Oooh, those look really nice -- now that's what I'm talkin' about!
The OBs in the post above are "proper" designs (based on Martin King's excellent work and careful, thoughtful designs).

The OBs in the first post were "built" to test some drivers -- I had a piece of 1 x 10" pine shelving. I cut it in half and free-handed holes for 8" drivers. Being a frugal Yankee :- ) I used the cutouts to make bases for the OBs; I thought that was beastly clever*.

    Extremely scientific ;- )

At the moment, there are a pair of EV "Wolverine" LS-8 twincone "fullrange" drivers mounted in the OBs. The relatively high weight of these drivers necessitated the addition of audiophile-approved, native New Hampsha granite counterweights to keep everything erect :-P

How do they sound? Well, the EV drivers have a high Qts and are thus quite OB-friendly, but the baffles are (way) too small for best results. There's a certain 'thinness' to the sound off-axis that's quite noticeable... but on-axis... hoo-boy! They actually sound remarkably good, and, as one might expect, they image rather phenomenally.

(no, I am not proud of my 'craftsmanship' -- but it was 'fit for purpose' for a test baffle)

Ok well this isn't open baffle but it is a full range DIY speaker that is Doc's fault I built so I'm adding it as I can remove one side and make it open baffle :p

it is a Fostex BK-16 6.5" Full-Range High Efficiency Folded Horn Kit
I have it built and just need to add the driver and binding post to it. then I realized I cant even test it till I make another one :/

anyway it is the good Doctor/ or mad Doctor fault for pushing me down this hole and it turn out ok I think even though my wood working skill is Zero.

I dig the open baffle sound. So many intriguing implementations from various speaker makers. Though I must admit, open baffles means different things to different people. At my age, it means something like this....

Let me point out the reason for my modification of MJK's small passive OB shown above:
Some people complain about the Alpha 15a having muddy bass. I think that this maybe due to mounting the 15" woofer on a too thin, poorly supported baffle. Thus my addition of small 'wings' as bracing and 2x4's for stiffening.

    Cheers, Jim

Just in the sake of lexicographical clarity, I meant in the previous post that I'd like to hear the loudspeakers -- not the 2 x 4s per se.

Look pretty darn good to me Darryl. If you do build a second, and like their sound, covering them with PSA backed Veneer would be easy peasy.

    My latest Open Baffle build...

    The%203%20inch%20X%2016s.jpg

Features the 16 per side of the Faital 3FE25 drivers. Total Q of .7, 91db listed sensitivity, 110hz FS, 100-20k. I'm running them down to about 200hz where, of course, OB woofer line of 4 10's take over. Line level crossover courtesy of Bryston, a pair of the First Watt F-1's for power. So 10w per line, bass and mains on each channel.

Climb out of the box and you never want back in!

@mhardy6647 How do single driver open baffle setups compare to SDA's as far as soundstage /imaging/hearing stuff all around the room and not just right in front of you?

well - the twincones have really limited dispersion, so you're pretty much locked in to the center to get the full effect. Coaxes on OBs are better in that regard; I won't really be playing with any true coaxes (like that Hawthorne, heh-heh-heh) until I "build" a proper pair of baffles.

I haven't but looking at it doesn't it screwup the phasing because the forward and rearward generated sounds are out of phase with each other? Maybe that's the effect is that you're talking about?

Like any dipolar radiator (edit: e.g., Magneplanars, or the original Quad ESL-57 electrostatcs), that does indeed have to be managed. I am of the opinion that placement of OBs is pretty critical "for best results", but lots of OB fanboys imply (and sometimes even claim explicitly) that they're actually pretty easy to place in a room.

I am still rather heavily biased towards relatively traditionally loaded loudspeakers, but there's fun to be had in the simple, pure space that OBs with appropriate drivers can afford.
