Goldenear Triton 5's

So after selling my Mythos STS and spending a few days demoing everything I could get my ears on (B&W, PSB, Sonus Faber, etc.) I pulled the trigger on a pair of Goldenear Triton 5's. I know there's so much hype around these and they seem to have a love/hate type sound, but i'm really enjoying them so far. After going through Klipsch, Zu, Martin Logan, Paradigm, PSB and Mythos i'm finally content. I feel like they're a very well rounded speaker and they're awesome for HT as well as music. I'll save the long winded review but I feel like all the speakers i've owned these are by far my favorite and they'll be here a while. 6qbopwgu7qpw.jpg

Did you get to compare these with the larger versions? They look pretty big anyway.

I heard the Ones briefly but didn't really compare them because of the price difference. The guy buying the Ones had a pair of Triton Twos and offered them to me for $2,100 if I didn't buy the 5's, the dealer didn't appreciate that haha. I liked the midrange better in the 5's better even though they didn't have as much bass.

Definitely, congrats on your new speakers B Run. Many have been waiting to hear your review on these new pups. :) These Triton 5's must be really fantastic, seeing you've owned so many very highly__ regarded brands of speakers in your journey. Enjoy!

Just read an article from Digital Trends 1/14/2015, they raved about this line of speakers and how they got a huge__ amount of attention at the CES 2015. Great find B Run!

I've been lucky enough to get to try some great speakers over the last year, most of which I traded and flipped on CL to keep upgrading. I really like the Triton's tweeter, it's so smooth but very extended and detailed. They have a very wide soundstage and image well. They don't have chest pounding bass but it's very tight and well defined, and goes deeper than i'd expected. They just sound right no matter what I play through them, movies or music. I was very close to getting the B&W CM8's after a demo but I still preferred the GE sound. All speakers have their tradeoffs but I feel like they have less weaknesses than anything i've owned. I loved Klipsch for movies and live music but not as much for most music listening. I loved the ZU's for Vocals, guitars and dynamic range but felt they lacked that last bit of detail I wanted. The ML's were great but could be a tad bright, were harder to place and took up a lot of room. The Paradigms had a great midrange but I never liked the tweeter and they were huge and needed a lot of power. I liked the STS's the best but prefer the midrange and treble of the Tritons, but miss the bass and look of the Mythos towers. For the price I don't feel like there was anything else i'd rather own.

Haha sorry, I do like them better than the Mythos especially if you were buying new since they're $1k cheaper, but it's hard to beat the STS's used for that price.

Still want to hear a set! LOL. The small thin stature of the sts is doing good in this room actually. I also need to still hear the lsim.

Congrats on the 5s. I didn't hear those in my search but listened to the 7s 2s and bought the 1s. They do have the chest pounding bass if you so choose, but I'm with you on the smooth tweeter. More detailed than anything else I demo'd. Got the supersat 3s and an XL center to complete the 7.1 setup that I'll install Tuesday.

My old shop has the entire line and they keep bothering me to come down and check them out.
I want to get over there but I'm always busy.
Congrats on the new speakers , I heard so many good things about them. One of my coworkers purchased the big boys and he can't stop talking about them.

Do it Dan! I've always agreed with your speaker advice, and after demoing the RF7's and B&W CM's as well I feel like your reviews have always been spot on. You recommend the SC-35 I still use and I decided to buy the STS' off craigslist because you always raved about them. I always enjoyed the Mythos but do feel like these really are a big step up from what Sandy did at Def Tech and are just a very well rounded speaker.
