Worth upgrading to Monitor 10 from Monitor 7?

I have Monitor 7C with SL2000's. The grills are in great shape, the cabinets have some chips and dents, they sound great.

I saw some M10's on CL, they are 10A with Peerless. Would they be worth moving to?

I am using an Arcam A65+ integrated. 40 wpc @ 8 ohm, 70 wpc @ 4 ohm.

If their cheap buy them & you decide. You can always sell the ones you dont like after. 7's are the ones everyone here says is the sweet spot of the monitor line

    10's will "rock out" more
7's are more balanced and image better

All things being equal (which, in this case, they're not -- given the difference in tweeters), my opinion would be -- no.

FWIW, I (still!) feel that the Monitor 7 was the sweet spot in the original "Monitor Series" loudspeaker line. My issue (such as it is) is a heaviness in the tone of the 10 that the 7 doesn't have. The 7, to me, is rendered preferable in this regard.

That said, the Peerless tweeter remains my favorite in that line -- but that's probably somewhat sentimentality-driven.

The 10 is a good sounding cheap (then & now) speaker, though -- I have a pair of each (and a pair of 5s and a pair of 9As, too), so... I may not have the most useful perspective on a yes/no dilemma ;- )

EDIT: FWIW, I was never too keen on the Monitor 12/RTA-12 family, either. To me, they were missing the magic of the smaller, simpler (cheaper) Monitor Series loudspeakers. Conversely, the original morph of the Monitor 4 (which also used the Peerless silk dome tweeter) was/is a very sweet and musical sounding little loudspeaker.

Such a loaded question with the tweeters listed. Id spend the $$$ on rd0194's & then id really like to compare..... Each sl2000 tweeter ive changed over i have noticed a big difference & find it to be the cheapest most positive upgrade yet

I would echo Nightfall's comments. I love my M7's. I had some 10's with SL2000 and thought they had a bigger sound, which I liked, just didn't like them as much overall.

Having said that, I do regret selling the 10's, I just didn't have room for both.

Maybe I'll just be better off to keep the M7's and get the RDO tweeters. The bass on the M7 is impressive on the material that actually has some deep bass.

If you do go with rd0194 Keep the boxes the rd's come in & sell off the sl's as there are people who need them. Keep in mind there are some who enjoy the sl-2000's. Good luck

Actually, to my old ears the SL2000 are fine. I don't have much hearing above 13K

I thought the same till i changed mine over....I installed one-listened to it for a few mins-then did the other quickly  Each time i listen to them i thank myself. Big difference. Not to put down the sl tweeet. Seriously for 102.00 you really can beat the upgrade

Do not part with your 7's in favor of the 10's. You could also buy the 10's have both and compare.

I have several versions of each model and I prefer the 7's with Peerless, but only slightly over the 10's, as they sound clearer with good imaging and accurate overall tone. It sounds like you already enjoy your 7's a lot. The 10's will go a little louder and lower, but I don't consider that a huge advantage for them over the 7's. If you are using them in a small room stay with the 7's.

You might consider, depending on your location, finding another pair of 7's with Peerless tweeters for only slightly more than the cost to buy and install new RD0-194 replacement tweeters. I understand some people don't want lots of speaker cabinets all around (funny people!). Good luck and enjoy whatever you decide.

With Amp you have, I'd stick with the 7s, and upgrade them. Do the "TL/SL3000" Mod, and get the RDO-198-1s. Better than the 194, and Peerless IMHO, and I've compared all the Tweeters Polk used. The 10s, while excellent, have two 8 ohm woofers in series, versus the 7's single 4 ohm, and will suck every ounce of current your Amp will put out. Some feel the 10s lack precise imaging due to the side by side woofers. I never noticed it when I owned a pair of 10s

I'll stick with the 7's. I may someday get another set of 7's with better cabs if i find a deal
