CRS+ passive experience

Well today im dubbing on speakers. I decide to clean the crs's. Why not pull the passive as ive never done it. Looks simple. 4 screws easy peasy. I pull one & look inside & put it back together after moving fill around on inside..... Go to do other one & as im on last screw the metal screen falls off. Crap i say. I thought it stayed together like the first one!!!! Well let me tell you DUST GALORE i clean it up spotless & back to unhook other one i put back into system. Cleaned it up nicely. Hook er all up & i actually had to turn the bass down a notch. Im listening to Rush right not & in grin ear to ear.... I dont think they were ever cleaned & i will say one thing-keeping up on speakers is fun & can take up some time with great resultszca1krl2ad7i.jpg

When I redid mine, I used Larrys rings and cap head screws, and the screen wouldn't fit on after. I don't even use the thing.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I thought about leaving it off. I would love to have some rings for these. A couple of screw threads may need attn soon. They snugged up but i will need to work on them soon

Think the ring ship has sailed. Use hurricane nuts.

my CRS's came with Larry rings, but I used Hurricane nuts on my monitor 10's and they are a nice upgrade. you want to use 3 drill bit's to make the hole's bigger start small and work up higher, Dave can tell you the correct one to use as I dont remember for sure, think 1/8 then ?? then 13/64 something like that.
    got my HN from part-express.

^^^^ thanks. They had a couple loose fit ones & one of the drivers didnt have the mw##### on them. Kinda makes me wonder if its the correct one-even though it sounds very good. I glued them when i got them & thats all ive done till today

Randy, the stereo drivers are either 6510s or 6503s, and should measure around 6.5 ohms DCR. The dimensional drivers are 6511s and are around 3-3.1 ohms DCR

Randy, I never dealt w/ the CRS but cleaning a SDA 2B must be the same only bigger. I did the Original Windex thing and it worked just great on my supposedly clean drivers and passives. I got my hand slapped for using Pledge on the bezel so after a good wipe down my 2Bs like your CRS are clean machines. Again for the 2Bs the stereo drivers are 6503s and dimensional are 6511. z55y4m0vhp47.jpg

Regarding the grill falling off: To keep the metal grill secured on my CRS+'s, I used some black oxide washers ordred from http://www.albanycountyfasteners.com/. Can't remember if they were #6 or #8 though.

    They look nice and clean.
Now regarding drilling holes bigger, try using a sheet metal step bit. They self center and go up slowly to the hole size you need. They usually are not deep enough so finish off with your favorite sized drill bit. Found this to make the holes nice and clean and in the same spot. You can get the bits cheap at harbor freight.

I use those at work now & then makes drilling a #30 to a #10 easy or a #10 to a #1/4 etc...never though about other uses for them.
