I tried to check the specs of the RTI-12 online - Crutchfield says they're done -3db at 30hz. Doesn't seem far off from some of the SDAs being discussed.

    Product Highlights:

    sold individually
    video-shielded
    bass-reflex design
    frequency response 30-26,000 Hz (-3dB)
    8-ohm impedance
    sensitivity 90 dB
    handles up to 500 watts
    dual 5-way binding post terminals
    real wood veneer
    11"W x 50"H x 21-1/4"D (with stabilizing base)
    warranty: 5 years
    Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Again, I'm only going on what you guys are saying about the RTA/SDA. You guys are the ones saying that I'd have to go with the big SDA's in order to get the same kind of bass I'm getting from the RTi12's. I already know what my speakers are capable of and can honestly say they reach a lot lower than 30Hz in my room. They are hitting 20Hz easily with room gain.

Sorry, I thought I made it pretty clear that the smallest SDA's, the CRS+, have incredible, awesome, mind-blowing bass response. I don't know what the ratings are, don't really care about numbers. I care what my ears tell me. I can tell you this - my CRS+'s make the floor shake. In my basement. A concrete slab. And they're on spikes.

If you're going to judge which speakers to get based on how the specs compare to another speaker and some post on a forum calling a speaker "tubby", then you have missed the boat. Get your ears on some speakers and hear what they sound like. Let YOUR ears decided what speakers you want, not someone else's ears.

I'm not sure where you're located, but I'm in Stamford, CT. Happy to give you a demo of the SDA's if you are close by.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
  • My SDA-2BTLs aren't shy in the bass department either. Very deep accurate bass. Mine also have the Erse inductor upgrade which compared to stock improved the low frequency response.

Well, I just tested this with my Alan Parsons & Stephen Court Sound Check disc. Mine definitely roll off below 31.5Hz. But 20Hz is definitely audible.

Not saying they sucked, do not get me wrong, but any time you tune a handful of 6.5 woofers that have a 31Hz resonant frequency, and they are ported or using passive radiators, you can get either deep bass or loudness, but never both.

I beg to differ and anyone that's heard my 2.3TL's will too.

The bass performance on the SDA's is not the same as it was when you sold them back in the 80's. Change out the sub-bass inductor to a low DCR coil, then listen again.

NONE, were the equal of a decent subwoofer....

    That's an absurd comparison.

Don't know but my 2B's put out crazy good articulate bass the wife absolutley loves them. The Crs+s also do a fine job.

Now for non precise thundering Bass that shakes the foundation my AR58's and my hunting shack nature disturbing Cerwin Vegas are both insane on the low end in a loud belligerent kind of way. I can put my big ole integrated Technics on them and hear the tunes across the lake.

I do love the articulate bass of the 2B's that's for sure love em, love em, ah you get the point.
