guitarists that do not get enough acclaim

To my estimation and I've seen just about all these guys w/ the exception of Robby Krieger and Mike McCready. Some did make the Rolling Stone Top100 list but mostly just barely. Here's my list of the most underated guitarists. Not in any specific order
1. Robby Krieger--The Doors #76
2. Mike Campbell--Tom Petty's long time lead #79
3. Robin Trower-- Before he got Hendrixised he was hypnotic w/ a Les Paul in Procal Harum
4. Steve Stills--Buffalo Springfield-CS&N-Manassas--#47
5. Robbie Robertson--The Band #59
6. Larry Campbell-- Further-Hot Tuna- Dylan--all kinds of session work multi tasker
7. Mike McCready-- Pearl Jam
8. Dickey Betts-- Allman Brothers Band--Great Southern #61
9. Mick Taylor--Rolling Stones--Solo #37
10. Bruce Springsteen - Saw him enough to convince me # 96
to my ears, most here if they did make the list are way down in the order to me. I drew this up before referring to the RS list.

Guitarists that stand out stand out for a reason. The guys who are in the shadows of others will most likely stay there or one day break out and go solo.
I'm a guitar player and hardly no one gives me any props, but that would probably be because I play in my basement alone LOLDan

"Prince"
Back in my heavy rocker days 80's-90's got a last minute call for an extra free Prince ticket, said hey why not...I always new he was a great performer and musician but was not expecting his talent as a guitar true soloist...gotta say WOW, the man can effortlessly shred...
but then again he is one of those true wonders that can play most instruments well2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

We just saw Larry Campbell with David Hildago and David Bromberg a few months back at The Flying Monkey in Plymouth, NH. All three were very, very good. I was sort of amazed by Hildago's skill on the gee-tar, truth be told.
Have you listened to (or, better yet, seen) Patty Larkin? She is a very, very good guitarist. -
Danny Gatton
Robert Fripp
Adrian Belew
Ben Harper
Tommy Bolin
Ry Cooder
Buck Owens
and just my thing, I get tired of Jimmy Page making underrated lists. He wrote great songs, some of the best guitar riffs ever. And played those riffs like nobody else could... but I can't stand any of his lead work. Just slop... though at least he plays with more gut than post-Cream Clapton, who is most likely the most over-rated guitar player of all time.

Ummmmmm......Alvin Lee. He wasn't even on the list. WTF!?
Eric Johnson. He wasn't even on the list either. WTF!?
People like "The Edge"?! Not even in the top 200, IMO. He gets too much praise.
I was suprised to see Nels Cline on there though. Interesting. He is an excellent player. I saw him live in LA in the early 90's. Phenominal! If you haven't heard The Nels Cline Trio's album "Silencer". Take a listen!
Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Mikey your 1st list were mostly ,well A-Listers. I was going for the complete opposite. Searing hot guitarists who just don't get any love. I definitely would include the recently deceased Alvin Lee. Have to agree w/ Doc Hardy about Larry Campbell. He is one very accomplished guitarist and multi tasker. He was even part of the PBS 3hr. tribute show for Bruce Springsteen as a member of the house band. While David Bromberg is exceptional I find his story telling style wears on me. He also is a very good friend of Jorma's and jams w/ Tuna at select shows.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

I don't think of any of these guys as truly underrated - they're all legends in the guitar and music world for their guitar playing - probably Larry Carlton is the most underrated/unknown on this list.
@mhardy6647 has a good list at the top of the "under the radar guys" I thought.
I'd add Alex Lifeson to the "guitarists who get outshined by bandmates" list though - I was glad to see Rik Emmett mentioned - seen them live a few times and he really is great.
Neil Geraldo and Elliot Easton are both great guitar players that flew low under the radar that people don't think of too - surprisingly inventive guitar work.VA HT HK AVR20II, Sony S9000ES CD/DVD/SACD, Polk Audio RC80i / Polk Audio CSi3, 60" Panasonic Plasma, Nordost / Signal Cable A2 / Wireworld / Pangea / Magic Power

Since I was speaking of David Bromberg a few posts ago I have an amazing story. He was playing w/ his big band in a club called The Inn @ Cotati in Northern California. Some dude very close to the stage started a horrible anti-Semitic rant right in front of Bromberg. He had enough of this ,unstrapped his Telecaster launched off the stage and just pummeled the sh$t out of this guy. Security was slow to come but when they did they also joined in the fun and then threw him out. Bromberg adjusts his glasses puts on his guitar and continues like nothing ever happened. I have never and mean never ever saw anything like this before or since at a concert. I have seen people having sex in the middle of the floor at a Dead show but that's it for extra activities.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Definitely - the great Tommy Tedesco along with Glen Campbell, Carol Kaye (who also played a phenomenal bass), Al Casey . . . .
It's amazing how many hits the Wrecking Crew played on, including the Byrds' "Mr Tamourine Man", The Beach Boys "Good Vibrations", and many more.
I remember wondering back then why bands with a hit record or two never sounded as good live as their records.
The documentary by Tommy Tedesco's son is a great documentary.

Even since his Humble Pie days Frampton was an accomplished guitarist. Now his monster double live album brought him to the fore front but his later work is even more exceptional.
